Star Trek: Federation by Judith Reeves-Stevens and Garfield Reeves-Stevens (1994, Hardcover)

I think this is one of the best Star Trek story lines yet written in the hardcover line. The writing team of Judith & Garfield Reeves-Stevens have written several Star Trek books and also teamed with William Shatner on several books. Their writing is strong and descriptive and they capture the characters the reader has come to know through television and film very accurately. I thought this story, which brings together the Original Series and The Next Generation Series without them actually meeting, was terrific. When I first read it, I believed it would be made into the the cross-over movie from Original Series to The Next Generation Series. I was highly disappointed when it wasn't. If there is a weakness to the book, I would have to say it is the use of some contrived moments, but then, it is Star Trek and that happens from time to time anyway.
