Star Trek: The Next Generation - Season 5 (DVD, 2002, 7-Disc Set)

Patrick Stewart|Theatrical release: 1991 | Rating: Not Rated

Movie synopsis

Nearly two decades after the cancellation of the original STAR TREK television series, creator Gene Roddenberry launched the first of what was to be four phenomenally successful spinoffs with STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION. Set in the 24th century (nearly 100 years after the stewardship of Captain Kirk), the series introduced an all-new cast of intergalactic travellers exploring the farthest reaches out of outer space on a mission to chart new planets and alien civilizations. Ship commander Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) anchored the crew of the Starship Enterprise-D with a sensitive reserve that marked a distinct contrast to his trigger-happy predecessor, whose role was assumed by the Kirk-like second-in-command, William Riker (Jonathan Frakes). Rounding out the cast were the Spock-like android, Data (Brent Spiner); blind officer, Geordi La Forge (LeVar Burton); Klingon officer, Worf (Michael Dorn); ship doctor, Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden); her teenage son, Wesley (Wil Wheaton); and psychic psychiatrist, Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis). Considered one of the best STAR TREK spinoffs for its intelligent writing and superb sci-fi special effects, THE NEXT GENERATION lives on in cult fandom with this complete collection of episodes from the series' fifth season.

Star Trek The complete Saga

Created: 27/03/10
One of the best shows that has been on tv. The continuation of a saga that started in 1966 with the original Star Trek has moved to the future with the episodes of The Next Generation. Gene Roddenberry created a dream that in my opinion will never die. This season has had a lot of great episodes that Gene would have had pleasure to have been part of if he had not passed at his young age. The next Generation has taken the Starship Enterprise to new locations that Cpt. Kirk would have never even known existed. All the Star Trek Series have and always will be my favorites from the original, Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, Enterprise, The Animated Series, All the theatricals The Motion Picture, Wrath of Khan, Search for Spock, Voyage Home, Final Frontier, Undiscovered Country, all with the original crew. Generations, First Contact, Insurrection, Nemesis, with The Next Generation crew. And ending but not completing The saga Star Trek 2009 with a all new story line. Star Trek in my opinion has the future to continue and will with new stories and characters. I purchased this Series 5 set to finish my collection of The Next Generation Epic. As long as Star Trek is alive and new adventures keep coming I will continue to upgrade my video library.

A Wonderful Journey

Created: 08/10/06
Whether feeling the frustration of Paul WInfield's character in "Darmok," or enjoying Franke's (sic) beauty in "The Perfect Mate," Season Five provides a delightful journey through Next Generation time. I purchased it new. Beautifully packaged, reasonably priced. Would have preferred a list of episodes with one or two sentence descriptions at least inside package if not on website offering, too. Titles are just not enough, for example "The Time Traveler" was neither of the time traveler episodes I thought it might be. Anyway, well presented and, it's Star Trek! Now, if I could only remember the title of the episode when Picard experiences the whole life cycle of a man from another planet... Linmat11

Star Trek

If your like me, you like all of Star Trek, but we each have our own opinions on the shows. But what collection would be complete without Star Trek The Next Generation Season 5. These is season is great and provides a little more insight to the characters and not to mention Patrick Stewart excels in his role as Captain here!

Star Trek: The Next Generation- Season 5 DVD

Created: 03/08/06
I purchased this DVD to continue my collection of the 7 season of the Next Generation. The 5th season was a major turning point of the series. They had had a very charactor building 4th season full of people stories which lead to this new uncharted direction that season 5 led off into. Well worth add to any collection and certainly a must if collection the entire series. My only complaint is that 26 episodes just aren't enough.. Excellent DVD extras and behind the scenes intervies. My hats off to the cast and crew!

Not the best season but a very good one................

Created: 03/01/08
Next Genearation Season 5 is highly regarded by Trekkies as "The Best Season" in the Next Gen series, I have to respectfully disagree. I think Next Geneartion Season's 6 & 7 are far superior. I have a feeling that the Spock two parter in season 5 (Unification) is the reason Trekkies freak out over this season. Don't get me wrong, this is still a great purchase and one I would highly reccomend, but not the best. Highlights of Season 5 are The Return of Spock, Hugh the Borg,Ensign Ro and special appearances by X-MEN's Famke Janssen,Frasier's Kelsey Grammer, and Ashley Judd star of the movie Heat.
