Star Trek: The Original Series - Season Two (DVD, 2008, Remastered)

William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy|Theatrical release: 1967 | Rating: Not Rated

Movie synopsis

Going boldly where no man had gone before, Gene Roddenberry's cult phenomenon STAR TREK debuted in 1966 and reflected that decade's optimistic preoccupation with space travel. Set in the 23rd century, the series chronicled the intergalactic adventures of the U.S.S. Enterprise on its five-year mission to explore the outer reaches of space. Encountering a now-iconic assembly of inventive alien life-forms such as the Klingons, Romulans, Tribbles, and Khan Noonian Singh, the ship's jumpsuited crew was a then unheard-of font of multiculturism: Asian Sulu (George Takei), African-American Uhura (Nichelle Nichols), and Scotsman Montgomery Scott (James Doohan). But it was the contrasting personalities of cooly logical Vulcan Mr. Spock (Leonard Nimoy), emotionally intuitive medical officer Leonard "Bones" McCoy (DeForest Kelley), and womanizing ship captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner in definitive overacting mode) that lent the series much of its charm--and spawned a rabid cult following that continues to fuel costume sales and convention bookings to this very day. This collection includes every episode of the series' second season. Beam me up, Scotty!

Star Trek: The Original Series - Season Two (2008, HD DVD)

We just got it today!! It's like watching it for the first time all over again. The new special effects are awesome, we just watched 2 episodes, in HD, its AWESOME!!!! The original series never looked better. All trek fans will not be dissapointed. The sound tracks and music are all redone in true HD sound, the picture in HD is very sharp and clear, and the colors are vibrant on screen, and all thru the epsiodes we watched, there where new surprises.

As Spock said many times in the Original Series "Fascinating"

If you are a star trek fan this is a must! Anyone who loves Star Trek will love this DVD. Once you start watching, you may become a Trekkie.

Here is what we think of the NEW movie coming in 2009

Remastered TOS - a bit over the top

Created: 29/04/10
Having grown accustomed to the look and feel of the original series with its corny '60's special effects, I just popped in the frist DVD this afternoon and was a little put out at how this new edition makes it a point to insert graphics and other touches that almost seem intended to "jump out" at you: viz., extreme close-ups of the Enterprise passing by to show off slick computer-generated retouches, a new voice-over for the opening theme, etc.

For someone like myself who didn't much care for the Enterprise space station-docking sequence in "The Wrath of Khan" (I think it was that film) or the saucer separation sequence in "The Next Generation" TV series, these new touches are attention-grabbing to be sure - which nay be calculated to appeal to a new generation of potential fans - but for me they were a trifle unnecessary.

Awesome Work

Created: 09/10/08
I had first seen the remastered series on the UPN network. I was completely blown away. My father had bought the series when it first came out on DVD, but I wnated to wait. I had a hope that CBS/Paramount would clean up the original work and present it in a better format. When I found out they were actually generating all new effects, I was in joy. It was beyond my initial thoughts. And when I finally saw the finished work, I was amazed. Buyin these sets are what I was waiting for. Thank you to all the hardwork that was put into recreating the series. It is awesome.

To Boldly Go Back......................

Created: 29/08/08
The new CGI special effects definitely improve the Star Trek experience while watching. There were a few discrepancies that I noticed but a regular person would not have noticed what I did. The one thing I don't like is that you can't watch the whole DVD without it going back to the main menu after each episode.

It really gets annoying after a while, but it's still a lot better than the VHS versions. Good job and I got it for a really good price too.
