    A real surprise!!!

    Created: 16/06/07
I would like to say I picked this up many years ago just because I was curious. A book about Captain Kirk written by the actor that portrayed him for decades sounds very self serving. But it may have a different spin with new insight into the character's mind. I believe this is the case. It is interesting to read about past events from the TV and movie series from a different point of view than what was presented.
This book is the second in a trilogy. You don't need to read the first one to understand this at all. Only the third book ties them together. Which brings up the point of how good the Reeves-Stevens team are as authors. This book had me go back read the first book, and I have gone and read all nine books in this series, (three trilogies). They are all entertaining, full of great story telling and a real comprehensive understanding of the Star Trek mythos.
This, and all the Star Trek books by William Shatner and Garfield & Judith Reeves-Stevens, are truly great books.

One of the best Sci-fi Books Ever!!

    Created: 10/12/09
This has GOT to be one of the best sci-fi books ever. I picked this up because I was having a blast reading all the new Star Wars books that started to come out in 1991 and figured that since this one picked up after Generations and I'd heard that Shatner was a very good writer I decided to give it a try...and couldn't put the book down.

He did an absolutely superb job in this book. I kept saying that I would read just one more chapter and I was through half the book by the time that came simply due to sleeplessness. All my brothers were into sci-fi like Star Wars, Star Trek, etc... I gave it to two of them and they both raved about it as much as I did.

Later I gave it to some friends who were also seriously into the Star Wars books and again they were blown away by it. Shatner is a faaaar better writer than he ever was an actor that's for sure. I've read a few more of his books and all were very good too but this one simply blows the others away.

Of the more than 80 Star Wars books I've read since 1991 only a few single books come close to matching how great this book was. I just ordered it again since I don't know where my copy is as I loaned it out so many times I want to make sure I have another hard copy in my library as I've been wanting to read it again.

There are many new revelations in this book and the way that he wove the story together, kept you wanting more and more, added action with suspense, revelations and plot twists was just masterfully done.

Without question one of the best sci-fi books I've ever read or heart about and probably one of the best books every written period. I was never bored at all with this book and of the 10 people I gave my copy to all came back with the exact same praise, raves, amazement and compliments for this book...so this is not just my opinion alone and judging from the reviews and 5 stars I've seen on other sites for this book like Amazon I can see that many other people feel the exact same way as I do.

If you like Star Trek or sci-fi in general and have at least seen the Star Trek movies and want to know more...get this book..you'll be glad you did!!

    Surprisingly good

I was wary of these books written by Shatner, concerned that they would be self-serving. But I was delighted at the insight into the characters. This is the 2nd book of his first trilogy, and very, very good.
