Star Wars: Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (Sony PlayStation 2, 2005)

I will assume that anyone reading this has at least seen the movie. So, fair warning, I may freely discuss events shown in the movie and don't consider them as spoilers. I bought it simply because I enjoy the movies and have played some very fun Star Wars games such as the Battlefronts, The Force Unleashed, and the Knights Of The Old Republic games. Now, on with the rest of the review...
While it's a fair adaption of the movie, it can get kind of repetitious. There is a slight rpg aspect that allows you to spend points gained in each level to make Anakin and Obi-Wan more powerful (such as force powers and combos). It is possible to use the force on some items that are a part of the environment as well as against your enemies. The force actions mostly fit in fluidly with the lightsaber combat, which can be done in some cool looking combos. I actually played The Force Unleashed game before this one so I wasn't as impressed with the combat system on the Episode III game as I am with TFU.
While there is some liberty taken with the story the movie tells, it also offers the freedom to explore some things that were alluded to in the film, but not actually shown. An example is there is a level in which you play as the newly christened Vader (still not in his suit) when he is sent to the Jedi Temple. (Of course, there is no killing younglings, that'd just be wrong.) For examples of some of the liberties taken see below in the section labeled spoilers.
There are unlockables such as some short mini-missions using other characters other than Anakin or Obi-Wan that were okay. You do get to play as Yoda, but that's not as superb as it could have been. There are two 2-player modes. The cooperative mode is lackluster like the bonus single player missions. The funnest part of this game for me was the 2-player versus mode. It's a lot like a very basic fighter, but it was fun to play with my 10 year old daughter.
While the spoiler section below is just that, it also contains some of my favorite aspects of the game.

One cool level allows you, playing as Anakin, to confront Mace Windu. Whereas in the movie Anakin cuts his arm off, you actually fight Windu. Pretty awesome really.
Another neat thing is on the Vader attacking the Jedi Temple part, you get to fight Cin Drallig. This was shown in the movie briefly when Obi-Wan views the holo-recording of the attack after he and Yoda return to the Temple.

Perhaps the coolest part is this. After completion of the movie's events and you as Obi-Wan have defeated Vader, you get to replay the level as Vader instead. Of course this means you kill Obi-Wan. (He misses when Vader flips over him & Vader runs him through with a back thrust from behind.) Palpatine has still journeyed to Mustafar. Here is what bugs me most about this part. Palpatine hands him his new lightsaber. I was under the impression that Sith would build their own lightsaber as Jedi do. Since I spoiled it mostly, here is the rest. He kills Palpatine on the spot and takes his place as Emperor, which for me just opens up a full out discussion on a very interesting what-if.

This is by far the best Star Wars Game yet-for the PS2. I have struggled through the early graphics engines and "limited" RPG scenarios of Episode I, Jedi Power Battles, Starfighter, Jedi Star Fighter, Clone Wars and Bounty Hunter. This game really gives you the freedom of wielding the lightsaber and inflicting a lot of pain and damage on your opponent fro both lightsaber and the force.

The best part is the unlockable Duelists. These can be played in one or 2 player mode like the rst of the game. If you don't want to struggle through each mission to unlock all of them, you can get the cheat codes online very easily to unlock them all as well as unlimted health and Force etc..
It makes for hours of fun and great replay value. It's great to keep the younger kids busy as well. They'll spend hours trying to learn the moves fighting each other 1 on 1 in several different venues with all of the characters. Of course, what can be better than having Darth Vader fight old Ben Kenobi on the Deathstar. Or Obi-wan and Grievous. The only characters that are not available for dueling are Darth Sidious and Yoda. However, there is one mission you play as Yoda and you can see why he is the great Jedi Master that he is.

I read the reviews on this game in USOPM and they discouraged me from buying it when it came out. They were SO WRONG. It would have been worth all $45 just to have it before the movie. I waited a year and got it on Half.com for $10. Don't wait. BUY THIS GAME NOW! Spend the money! You will NOT regret it!

Episode III Revenge of the Sith is by far the best game of the Star Wars series. Excellent character development which lets you use the experience you gain throughout the game to upgrade skills and powers or acquire new abilities. Also, the game features real footage from the movie! A 'must-have' for gamers and fans alike!

If you can manage to look past the bad graphics, this game is pretty good. It follows the story with almost precise accuracy.

Don't buy this game if you're looking for a casual, easy to play kind of game. To do attacks you have to use combinations and that's often hard to figure out for novice game players.

But if you love Star Wars and want to take on the challenge, it is definitely worth it. There are tons of great bosses and combat just like in the movie.

You fight your way through various scenes and scenarios using your light saber. Droids, battle droids, laser canons etc. Lots of action and variety. Game is animated with scenes from movie and actual voices. Good is fairly easy, so if you're looking for a tough mind-bend, figure-it-out action game this may not be it, but otherwise good fun and well put together. Recommended.
