Star Wars Republic Commando (Xbox, 2005)

I am a Star Wars fan, and until recently I haven't had the pleasure to play this great game.
First, the gameplay-
The Ally AI in this game is excellent. Your teammates are great, as they each have good skills. Scorch is awesome. He can blow things up. Sev is your killer. Tell him to run in or take up a sniping position, and he is there. Fixer is good at slicing computers. And best of all, they HELP you kill things! They don't just sit around and wait for you to come and kill everyting. And the enemies are hard to kill. Not like Battlefront, where you can kill something in 3-4 shots, these enemies are tough. One enemy took me about 1-2 minutes to kill (super battle droid). And the HUD interface is great. Also, they have multiplayer modes both online and splitscreen for the XBox.
Graphics-
Outside of Battlefront 2, these are the greatest graphics of an XBox game I have seen yet. The motion capture of the heroes is great, and the battle droids and geonosian soldiers look much like they did in Episode 2.
Sound-
You can tell that Lucasarts is listening to their fans. The soundtrack is vintage John Williams (he may not have orchestrated the music for the game, but the soundtrack is remenicent of the movies). And the sound effects make it seem like you are actually in the universe (one of the extras is about foley artists, the people who make those really cool sound effects).
Story-
The story is set during the clone wars, starting with the Battle of Geonosis and ending with Kashyyyk (I don't think I spelled that right, but I don't have any references with me :->). Temura Morrison does the voice of Boss (you), and he does a great job. There is a good overall plot, as you are trying to take down separatist leaders and power characters. The game flows much like "Call of Duty 2: Big Red One(r)", where you move from one location to another, and people are telling you about your objectives.
Overall-
I would give this game a 5 out of 5. If you are a Star Wars Fan, this game is a must. I love most of the games that have come out, and other than "The Force Unleashed", "Jedi Knight", or "Rebel Assault 2"; this is one of the best.
If you are not a Star Wars fan, then you still might like this FPS, because of the above mentioned in "Gameplay". Kudos to Lucasarts.

"Can you Smellllllllllll What Lucas Arts is Cooking?" One super game, that's what their cooking. Republic Commando is a very good game I'd recommend whether you like Star Wars or not. The multiplayer game is great and under populated, but the single-player game is slick, polished, frantic, and exciting. The squad-based nature isn't revolutionary, nor is it as deep as "real" tactical games, but it's clean, easy to use, and doesn't slow things down. Add to that all the delicious details that LucasArts has crammed into every corner and you don't have many excuses not to enjoy it. Play this game get you really emerge in to the game. Your cloned brothers actually fell like your real bothers. You send so much time with them if game, it's really like their family. So it kind lonely went you get to missions you have to solo until you meat up with them again. Your bothers may all look alike but they all act different. One is funny, while the other is serious, while the last is just battle hungry. No matter what happens in the game you will always need your clone brothers either for support or a revival. The Clones are the best support AI I have ever seen in any game. And in most other title the AI is usually to stupid to help. Not the case here. Sev is a hard core hunter as, Fixer is just a funny man and scorch is the heart of the group. Learn your squad strength and weakness is what keep you alive in this game. "Republic Commando" is a game I can recommend for just about everyone. It's no Halo 2 killer but it give Halo 2 a good run for it's money. "Republic Commando" is just a lot of fun without those Jedi would be nice, however Jedis are in every star Wars game. And for once it is nice to not play a game with a jedi in it, or a Star wars game depended on a Jedi to be popular. RC is game play takes a way from the usual Jedi slash force play and concentrate on a lot of the grunt action. But who know, maybe in the future a jedi or two may be in part two. <Hint Hint> Place this game to the end and play it twice. The ending is unbelievable and it leave you wanting for more.


Well, this would be much of a review if I didn't talk about some of the weal points in the game. But no worries, there is just a few minor ones. One of the main problem in this game is that your weapons seem to lack a lot of punch. While the blaster is just average compared to the reaper and the shot gun, but most of the game you need your blaster rifle since you can adapted in to other weapon like a sniper fire and a anti-armor weapon. However weak the weapons are matters not because you have some "dam good" support in the game. Minor graphic errors, no big deal. I'm sure LucasArts has patched it by now, they usually stay on top of those things and if not it's doesn't hurt the game.

Over all I have to give the game two thumbs up despite it not being graphical superior to most game. However what it doesn't have in graphics it makes up in game play. Over all this game wins you over with superior game play and team work. A supper first person action shooter and a good multiplayer adventure.

THIS GAME IS THE GREATEST GAME OF ALL TIME! EVERYTHING WAS DONE RIGHT FROM DAY ONE! THE GRAPHICS ARE PHENOMENAL AND TODAY RIVAL CURRENT GEN GRAPHICS ON THE 360! THE GAMEPLAY IS FLAWLESS, AND IS ONE OF THE MOST SOPHISTICATED SQUAD AI'S EVER SEEN IN A VIDEO GAME! THE PRESENTATION IS AMAZING! YOU ARE FIRST IN GEONOSIS, FIGHTING IN THE SCENE FROM ATTACK OF THE CLONES, DOING IMPOSSIBLE MISSIONS! NOTE: THIS GAME GETS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT AT SOME POINTS. THEN YOU ARE ASSIGNED TO SEE WHAT IS GOING ON ON A REPUBLIC SHIP, WHICH IS TOTALLY EMPTY! IT DELIVERS SOME SCARES AS YOU COME AROUND CORNERS TO MEET.....

BUT I CAN'T GIVE ANY MORE AWAY OF THE CAMPAIGN! THE ONLINE MODE LEAVES YOU WANTING MORE, BUT STILL DELIVERS SOME THRILLS. THE MAPS ARE STANDARD FARE, WITH CAPTURE THE FLAG, DEATHMATCH, TEAM DEATHMATCH AND ASSAULT, WHICH IS ESSENTIALLY LIKE SABOTAGE ON COD4!

MY RECOMMENDATION COULD NOT BE HIGHER! FIND AN AUCTION, WIN IT, AND YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED! IT'S CHEAP, ONLY 10-15 BUCKS, I OWN TWO COPIES, THATS HOW MUCH I LIKE IT! XBOX IS PERFECT AND IT WORKS ON THE XBOX 360, AND THE PC VERSION IS EVEN BETTER, AS MORE PEOPLE PLAY IT ONLINE PLUS YOU CAN MAKE YOUR OWN MAPS! BUT EITHER WAY, THE GAME IS STILL FUN, AND THE GREATEST GAME OF ALL TIME!

This is an older game so is not widely available in stores. The price on ebay was well under the advertised price on the X-Box web site. The graphics are not as good as next gen consoles but the game play is good. I was getting tired of Battlefront II and needed a replacement. I am awaiting the release of the new Force unleashed game for X-Box 360 and wanted something to hold me over until then. This game was great for that. The action is good but not so over thetop that younger players will be traumatized by it.

This game encorporates the fun of first person shooters like the Jedi Knight Series (or any FPS really) and combines it with some pretty intelligent AI squad members. You can order these guys around telling them to attack, or heal themselves, or set charges, etc.

The storyline of the game follows the adventures of Delta Squad, a group of Republic commandos that are basically specially trained versions of the Republic's clone army. Delta Squad's job is to infiltrate enemy strongholds, and soften them up a bit, or steal info, or other behind enemy lines-type stuff.

A great game for for anyone who enjoys the squad based shooter genre! :)
