Stardust (DVD, 2007, Full Screen)

Matthew Vaughn, Charlie Cox, Claire Danes|Theatrical release: 2007 | Rating: PG-13 (MPAA)

Movie synopsis

Director Matthew Vaughn (LOCK, STOCK, AND TWO SMOKING BARRELS) takes his experience with credible crime capers and applies it to the fantasy genre in this charming but not too precious adaptation of Neil Gaiman's novel. The many threads of the story intertwine seamlessly, unfolding at an unforced pace that complements the movie's magical special effects. Charlie Cox (CASANOVA) stars as Tristan, a somewhat bumbling shopkeeper's assistant in the sleepy English village of Wall, so named for the stone barrier that separates it from the magical realm of Stormhold. Tristan is in love with the beautiful, dismissive Victoria (Sienna Miller), who much prefers her other suitor, Humphrey (Henry Cavill), since he has traveled all the way to Ipswich to buy her an engagement ring. Tristan, in a last-ditch effort to win Victoria's affections, offers to bring her a fallen star they've just seen, and she agrees to marry him if he can deliver.Unbeknownst to Tristan, he is the product of his father's (Nathaniel Parker) sole excursion to Stormhold, where he had a tryst with a mysterious slave girl (Kate Magowan) who said she was a princess. As Tristan retraces his father's steps he discovers that the "star" is actually a beautiful young woman named Yvaine (Claire Danes) . A trio of witches, led by a delightfully wicked Michelle Pfeiffer, wants to capture Yvaine to cut out her heart and gain eternal youth, while the three remaining sons of the recently deceased king (Peter O'Toole) compete with one another to find the gem Yvaine wears around her neck. With special effects that never outshine the performances and a sweet story peppered with hints of Gaiman's dark sensibility, STARDUST is a truly enchanting fairy tale.

Excellent Movie!

Created: 17/01/08
I loved this movie. Great special effects. Great story line. Great characters!
It takes you to an imaginary place full of falling stars, witches, ghosts, a flower that provides protection and a handsome prince. Teaches a lesson about true love. Very well done. I don't recommend this movie for younger children. Maybe seven and above. Some violence. Designed for older children, young adults and adults! I'll never forget Robert Deniro's little dance!

Stardust (2007, DVD)

I saw the movie in the theater and loved it. I think it is an excellent Fantasy movie. If you like Fantasy movies you will love Stardust. The story line is very interesting, exciting, and fun ... it has Adventure, Romance, Humor, Mystery, and like any good fantasy the fight between Good & Evil. Michelle Pfeifer plays a great evil witch and I just I Loved Robert DeNiro in this part; his range in acting ability is outstanding! The directing, filming, special effects, make-up and costumes are first class. I enjoyed Stardust immensely, so I bought it now I can see it as often as I desire!

This Generation's "Princess Bride"

Created: 29/05/08
This movie was Excellent. I went to redbox and wanted to rent "Golden Compass" but it wasn't there, so on a whim, I rented Stardust. I had low expectations for this movie, but it shattered them all!! I have since seen "G C" and Stardust was a better movie, by far. It was so great, that I bought it. When I watched the "Making of" I was shocked when the director said that his goal was to make a "Princess Bride" type movie. Because when I first saw stardust, I told everyone that it was like an updated "P B." I loved it and would highly recommend!

This film is amazingly great mixing romance with magic and the bad and good guys. Claire Danes shines in this film! She is such a great actress, haven't seen much of her since romeo and juliet, it's good to see her making good movies again!
