As with the preceding albums, STARDUST finds Stewart tackling the cream of the crop of classic pop standards, songs that will be instantly familiar to followers of Bennett, Sinatra, et al. but which may conceivably be new to some of Rod's more rock-oriented fans. In that sense, the record can be seen as a public service, introducing those woefully benighted souls to such masterworks as the Gershwins' lovelorn ballad "But Not for Me," and the transcendently stellar, Hoagy Carmichael-penned title tune. As if the material wasn't firepower enough, the album's profile is further raised by some heavyweight guest stars; Dolly Parton is Stewart's sassy foil on "Baby, It's Cold Outside," Stevie Wonder contributes his trademark chromatic harmonica magic to "What a Wonderful World," and Eric Clapton adds to the poignancy of "Blue Moon" with some lyrical guitar work.

Rod Stewart: Great American Songbook III

Created: 06/02/10
This is an excellent collection of classics from another time. This is very unlike Stewart's pop (If you think I'm sexy) style. I heard this series playing in an antique store and asked about it. I refused to believe it was Rod Stewart at first. Songs from upscale night clubs . . . in the 1950's. Stewart maintains the original tempo and tone, so you might believe these were recorded 50 years ago. Duets include Clapton, Bette Midler, Stevie Wonder, and Dolly Parton.

More of those timeless classics!

Created: 09/10/08
Rod Stewart is most noted for his rock and roll classics. However here he puts a superb performance into those timeless classic that you're more used to hearing from Fank Sinatra or Tony Bennett and does so with panache and fine interpetations. His ability is extraordinary to give a form and feeling to these songs that is a bright contribution to the Great American Songbook. The duets are the artist and freinds really having some fun with the respective choices. Volume 3 of a now 4 volume set.

Stardust...The Great American Songbook Vol. III - Rod S

This is a fabulous CD. I wasn't a great fan of Rod Stewart, but after listening to this CD and the way he adds his particular brand of singing to these old songs, I've done a 180 and ordered more of the series. I hope he continues to add more -- I'll be first in line to purchase them.
