Stargate: Atlantis - Season 5 (DVD, 2009, 5-Disc Set)

Joe Flanigan, Rachel Luttrell|Theatrical release: 2008 | Rating: Not Rated

Movie synopsis

The STARGATE universe is exhilaratingly expanded and the epic feel of the franchise is perfected in this acclaimed spin-off of the STARGATE SG-1 series (itself spun-off from the 1994 blockbuster from director Roland Emmerich). In STARGATE: ATLANTIS, an international crew of scientists and soldiers finds yet another Stargate, one which leads to the lost city of Atlantis. This Stargate isn't on Earth but in the far-away Pegasus Galaxy, and the secret city holds a formidable new enemy known as the Wraith. With this fifth and final season of the hit sci-fi series, the order of things takes one final turn as IOA representative Robert Woolsey replaces Samantha Carter as the commander of Atlantis, and the mission’s original leader, the allegedly self-sacrificed and cloned Elizabeth Weir, returns as an ascended being. Meanwhile, the crew moves to take down the human-wraith hybrid Michael and free the captive Teyla while a rogue faction of the benevolent Asgard race shares its experiments in the prolonging of human life--as well as an item that could forever change the Stargate universe as fans know it. This set includes all 20 episodes of STARGATE: ATLANTIS’s final season and serves as the lead-in to the exciting feature-length STARGATE: EXTINCTION.

Atlantis Ends After Five Seasons

Created: 17/08/09
As Stargate Atlantis ends, it's easy to understand why they chose to end it when they did. A great show, but it appears they ran out of ideas. The fifth season should have ended with a 2-5 part finale encompassing several weeks but instead they did "Vegas" just prior to the series finale and I was dumbstruck. Why did they do this? Perhaps the movie that has been noted on Wikipedia is why. Supposedly, an Atlantis movie is going directly to dvd. But no word yet on when.
To me, as an impartial viewer who only started watching Atlantis after it had ended, I was po'd that the character Weir was killed off the way she was. Oh sure, she comes back (in a different body) in season five but the way she left at the end of season three was absurd. But then I'm the silent majority who doesn't get a a say in anything. Still, overall I highly recommend Atlantis as a series with the first three seasons being the best (to me). Next for me comes SG1. I have yet to buy and watch all the dvd's but I will get there. After that comes Farscape. No, being single is not great, but I figure you might as well take advantage of all the free time and catch up on your sci-fi viewing which we know, few women truly appreciate (marathon viewing). Whether it from the Stargate Universe or be it from Highlander, Buffy, Babylon 5, Hercules, Xena or Star Trek, all have a certain appeal that touch us in very different ways. Oh, and after Farscape comes Battlestar Galactica, eh eh.
I give season five of Atlantis 4 stars out of 5 with the series overall being 4.25 stars. I mean, you've got to admit, Rodney McCay was annoying.....on occasion.

I like very much sci-fic in first place. The original movie of Stargate bring me an a new spiritual meaning of the human been at Earth. So, I follow the secuels: Stargate Continium, SG-1, and Atlantis. This is the final season and the end of this series. I need to know what is the characters finale.
This season came with Spanish language, so that is my language, I enjoy more.

Stargate Atlantis, Season 5

Created: 13/05/10
As an avid Stargate fan with no Stargate shows I want to watch (can't stand Stargate Universe) I have been buying the seasons on DVD; Season 5 is my 2nd favorite season, Season 4 being my favorite. You'll like this season if you are a Stargate Atlantis fan. Some of the episodes are different, however, than previous seasons. This is partly due to the series being canceled. The writers had other episodes planned to carry on to the next year, but changed some at the last minute when the series got canceled.

great ending to a wonderful series!

We have been fans of Stargate SG-1 for years and fell in love with Stargate Atlantis. We are not exactly the basic sci-fi movie watchers but these two series captured our attention from pilot to end = can't wait for Stargate Universe!!

Man I could Wait Any Longer

I decide to buy it after waiting a year or so for it to come up on Expressview.
If your a fan you have to see it, that said I think they knew the axe was falling and the writing shows this and even in the end the actors seemed to give up too.
Now there no Sci Fi left for me to watch on TV. Nuts...

Maybe a new Star Trek I don't know but the SGU sucks and blows at the same time.

Man...

Good if your a fan
