STARING AT THE SEA is a necessary volume in any Cure fan's collection, its 17 absolute gems ranging from the dark, minimalist "Killing an Arab" to the almost symphonic "A Night Like This." The collection traces the Cure's evolution from post-punk trio through the early years of the band's reinvention as gloomy and mildly psychedelic romantics.STARING includes the catchy "Boys Don't Cry" and "The Walk," the Cure's response to New Order's early attempts at electronic dance music. Also present here are the hauntingly beautiful "Charlotte Sometimes," not available on any other compact disc, and "The Lovecats," one of the Cure's more unique-and most commercially successful-singles. This excellent compilation effectively summarizes the growth of one of new wave's most formidable forces. STARING AT THE SEA also serves as an ideal introduction to the Cure.

    This IS The Cure!

    Created: 05/07/06
Like any group, The Cure has gone through distinct stages in their development. Staring At The Sea spotlights their best stage. From the eerie, and prophetic, Killing An Arab to the killer dance number In Between Days, this collection shows the group's versatility. All the selections in this compilation brim with intelligence in the lyrics and fine musicianship. Unfortunately, this period did not last as they slid into forgettable, disposable pop tunes soon after this period. For the true essence of The Cure one must procure this collection in order to really understand what they were about. It's good for what ails you.

The Cure Staring at the Sea

    Created: 01/12/07
I have only recently become a Cure fan at the age of 53. (Many years of rock and roll). Even though slightly used, the case, CD, and everything was in excellent condition. The E-Bayer seemed reputable and sincere and I made a wise choice. Good pricing and thoughtful searching will get one a great deal.

    Who doesn't love the cure?

    Created: 02/06/06
CLASSIC!! It takes me right back to the good ole days HA! Of course the recording doesn't have the depth of more recents, a bit tinny and shallow but I love it and always will. Every song is perfect the punk sound at its best without the vulgarity. a Virtual Tim Burton movie set to music.
