Album Notes
Nickelback: Chad Kroeger, Ryan Peake (vocals, guitar); Mike Kroeger (bass); Ryan Vikedal (drums).Recorded at Greenhouse Studios, Burnaby, British Columbia.Personnel: Ryan Peake, Chad Kroeger (vocals, guitar); Ryan Vikedal (drums).Audio Mixer: Garth Richardson.Recording information: Greenhouse Studios, Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada.Photographer: Neil Zlozower. Those with a short cultural memory say that Canada's Nickelback is reminiscent of power-rockers Creed. To the rest of the world, this means that they're influenced by grunge stalwarts Pearl Jam, which also means they're indebted to vintage alt rock and to '70s hard rock. All these sonic touchstones are readily apparent on THE STATE. The album ostensibly revolves around "Leader of Men," which garnered the most attention on the album's initial release, and which is reprised at the end of the album in an acoustic version just to drive the point home.Anyone drawn in by that cut will find more to like here. The opening track "Breathe" finds Nickelback charging with full force straight out of the gate over a relentless rhythm section and jackhammer guitar riffs. "Deep" slows down the pace to an undulating grind, never releasing the hard-won tension for a moment. While Nickelback may show more of Creed's unrelenting attack than Pearl Jam's eclecticism, fans of either band should feel entirely comfortable in the aural environs of THE STATE.

Not The Best By Nickelback

Created: 12/10/05
CDs in increasing order of "goodness" by Nickelback:
"Curb," "The State," "Silver Side Up," "The Long Road," and "All the Right Reasons."

"The State" is not a bad CD at all, but it's just that it is unremarkable. It is forgettable rock music, a CD you can put in, listen to, nod your head to a few songs, and then quickly forget once it's over. The songs are not very deep lyrically and fail to convey a lot of meaning to me. Also, the instrumentation is not as good as that on "Silver Side Up" or their 2 latest efforts. If you are a big fan of Nickelback, then this review won't deter you from buying it. But if you are a newbie to Nickelback, buy "All the Right Reasons" or "The Long Road," and then "Silver Side Up" before this one.

Nickelback - The State

The CD is basically their first National release and does have some good tracks. Most notably the track "Leader of Men" which is now recieving more airplay now that the band is better known. The Accoustic version of "Leader of Men" is really the reason I bought the CD.

AMAZING CD

I just love this cd, it is one that is listen to daily. I purchased copies for home, work and my car, I am never without this cd. I would highly reccomend it to every Nickelback fan out there. If you don't have it get it, you won't be sorry. Every song has some kind of a little story to it, some sad and some very cheerful. I decided to purchase this cd for the simple fact I am a Nickelback addict. I can't get enough of their music.

The beginning of a remarkable band.....

Created: 30/01/08
Unlike any other voice is Chad Kroeger and this album accentuates the talent he has along with the remaining members of Nickelback (which now includes Daniel Adair). The State is the beginning of success for Nickelback and any premium fan listens to this album to remember that everyone starts out somewhere and grows. It is an older sound for NB but this album rocks as do the other 5 albums (Hesher, Curb, Silver Side Up, The Long Road & All The Right Reasons). It's a keeper!
