Movie synopsis

In addition to playing with Buffalo Springfield and Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young, singer/songwriter Stephen Stills led a 1970s supergroup called Manassas, which included the Byrds' Chris Hillman and purveyed a rootsy amalgam of rock, folk, country, blues, and Latin flavors. This release presents a rare Manassas concert from 1971 for live renditions of overlooked gems like "Cuban Bluegrass" and "It Doesn't Matter."

Live Manassas review

Created: 05/05/09
This is a very entertaining DVD for me. I am a huge Stills fan as well as a Chris Hillman fan. This DVD is all about Stills though. Chris is playing rhythm and singing harmonies, all flawlessly I might add. However he does not look like he really wants to be there. Fuzzy Samuels rocks it hard it on bass and everyone else is very top notch. The guitar fretboard shots are very prominent so if you want to learn some of these tunes, you can get it right off of this DVD. You will most likely go out and buy a Gretsch after watching this DVD so factor that into the price of your purchase. Recording quality appears to be the best available in its day although not quite up to today's technology. You will not be disappointed though.

Great live footage of a solid band

Created: 02/01/11
I purchased this concert as a follow-up to the purchase of the first Manassas album. Having seen Stills in the 70's with CSN, it was great to watch him perform with another set of musicians. As mentioned in another review, video quality is a bit low by modern standards, but is easily watchable. Sound quality is good, including all of the exchanges between numbers. Stills' voice is in great form, and he is definitely the featured musician. Short concert, which is the major downside to the DVD. Still worth the money and the 40 or so minutes of your time.
