Storey's Guide to Raising Dairy goats, quite practical.

    Created: 02/06/08
This is an immensely practical guide, covering pretty everything you need to know when planning to start a small goat dairy farm.
This book covers everything from breed selection, to housing & fencing, and even diseases and problems to watch for. You will even find lovely recipes for various things you can make with goat's milk.
I bought this book as my partner is planning on starting a small goat dairy farm. I would thoroughly recommend this book to anyone else looking to do so, or even wishing to brush up on the care of goats.
I also like that it is a handy smaller size, so the beginner dairy farmer will not find it to difficult to carry his guide around, and have it on hand for awhile.

    Very informative

It was a very good read, it not only dealt with the dairy side of goat keeping (obviously) but it also had a section about Chevon and other goat "by-products." Also had a lot of recipes, like how to make your own mozzarella and things like that. The author was fairly objective I'd say, only in the health section did his bias show through. The only other part I wish it had dealt with by having at least one other option was the way of disposing of buck kids at birth. Drowning? Why not at least type out 'euthanasia' or raising them for meat? At any rate, I enjoyed the book, it was very comprehensive and covered a lot of things I didn't find in researching on the internet. I'll read and reread it for many years to come.

Great Goat book! A MUST HAVE FOR ANYONE RAISING GOATS!

    Created: 10/07/07
I love this book. Great reference. I am just starting out and all this info is great. Well put together, easy to understand. Even has recipes that look great-- I can't wait to try all the different uses for the milk. We go through milk like crazy. With the milk prizes rising, I would encourage anyone to get goats and raise them. Even if you only had a doe you could get it serviced through someone elses buck. Goats are great animals-- I never thought I would say that but you can see why they say they are great for the elderly and the disabled. Very sweet loving animals. This book gives first hand knowledge that is useful for someone like me that wants to get the most out of their goat.I encourage you to have this book on hand... really! I had been looking at this book for awhile. I am so glad I bought this book. If you are uncertain you can go to amazon.com and look inside this particular book. This is one of the 'must haves' when raising dairy goats!

    Best Reference I Found

    Created: 10/05/10
I wanted a reference guide to have handy when needed. After reading several library books on goats, I chose this title as the one to buy. Complete yet not too technical. I highly recommend this book!
