Give Me What I Want and I Will Go Away...

    Created: 24/09/06
Aaahhh Maine. Vacationland - really it's on their plates! Lovely place to visit if you have never read or seen a movie based on a book by Stephen King. If you have then you will probably be all paranoid and uneasy the whole time.

A "storm of the century" is about to hit a village on an small island off the East coast. So while everyone is leaving, getting ready to leave or stocking up on provisions a creepy man kills an older lady. The man actually waits in the house for the police to arrest him. of course they are stuck with the man since the time to leave the island has come and gone. He sems to know everyone's deep dark secrets and keeps saying that he will leave as soon as they give him what he wants. Fine, but he keeps dragging his feet about what exactly it is that he wants. He makes people kill others by using his cane to deliver the message.

By the time he says what he wants you pretty much know what he wants. Actually even before that you know who it involves - I am trying not to give too much away but it is pretty predictable.

Acting was pretty good - actually got a crush on Tim Daly from this miniseries - and the scenery was amazing. I did not find it creepy - which is a must for me to find a horror movie effective - or scary, but it was entertaining.

If you like slashers or gore then skip it. Yes, there is some violence and blood but nothing spectacular - remember this was on tv.

    Storm of the Century

    Created: 26/08/06
This movie is truly chilling. If you enjoy watching movies that make you think and that promote discussion- this one is right up there (a huge moral issue unfolds as the plot progresses). Also the storyline is fully resolved by the end of the movie, which is somewhat comforting. I don't like cliffhangers endings- especially when the movie is soooo lengthy (more than 4 hours). At my house we watch this one every year during the first winter storm... it's a fun tradition.

A small and very close knit island community brace themselves for what forecasters are calling the winter storm of the century. They know that when the storm hits they will be completely cut off from the mainland and they are trying to prepare for it as best as they can. They have dealt with severe weather before, but they have never experienced a storm quite like this one, as at the same time the weather hits they discover they have a murderer in thier midst. He seems to know everything about them- all of thier darkest thoughts and secrets and he promises to destroy them all, if they do not give him what he wants. But is what he wants too high of a cost to pay? Each islander reaches thier own conclusion about this. One thing that is interesting about the end of this movie is that King provides follow up information about how each character deals with thier decision after the fact and how they were able (or not able) to live with themselves...

KING AT THE TOP OF HIS GAME

    Created: 10/01/11
This is by far, one of Stephen King's most profound mini series. Its a close tie between Rose Red.
I broke my DVD and was hunting for a replacement. The small town in peril, the one rogue who just couldn't live with it.
Put in that situation, I wouldn't give up my child. Not to a demon. no way.
But the feelings, the accents, the setting.
The really creepy thing, when I first saw it, was when everyone dreamed the same dream. Oh yeah...one of the best.
Great for a snowy day...One to watch over and over. Its always something new, pending on where you are in your life when you see it.

    What a Storm

    Created: 06/07/08
This is a good Stephen King movie, but once you've seen The Mist, this one somewhat pales. It is good tho. What a horrible winter storm and murders and one unusual suspect to bring an entire town together and then tear good friendships apart over what the suspect wants, It was simple..just give him what he wants and he will go away...but its what he wants that tears the town friendships apart...hubby loved the movie, everytime it was on HBO or Cinemax he'd be there watching it..so it only made sense to buy him the
    dvd.
