Interesting Ancient History

Created: 04/10/10
Our 7-year-old is excited to listen to these stories from ancient history. Amazing! It would be nice to see more biblical references in it. This book is good for teaching several children of different ages, probably ages 6-12. It is a good read-aloud for a home school situation.

Gives New Life to History

Created: 04/02/10
Story of the World is an excellent way of presenting history chronogically. It is written in story form and conversational style. Because it's written this, it holds children's interest and can be used for multi-age educating (such as homeschool). It is not designed to be an in-depth study but certainly a means of retaining information as well as sparking an interest.

We use are using Story of the World "primary" history book but we do have many other "living books" on the same time periods. This is how one provides a well rounded education. I'm so glad that we found this!

CREATION VS. EVOLUTION

Created: 08/09/09
For an encyclopedia, it does not get as into evouloution after the first few pages as most do. It is an excellent resource for chronological order of history. It you are a creationist it will work (with very MINOR areas of evoloution) I recommend this very much as it is easy for elementary students to read and understand! My 2nd grader has no problem reading this and understanding the information!

The Story of the World Vol 1, Susan Wise Bauer

Created: 11/07/08
History is many stories combined into one, so why not tell history through stories. As an experienced high school teacher, I have found that students learn best through stories. This book, though written for elementary students, is great for my students who have low to below average reading skills. It makes reading fun again. My 6 year old loves for me to read it to him. This four volume set should be on the shelf in every parents home!
