STILL GOOD AFTER ALL THESE YEARS...
Created: 08/03/08
I saw Strange Brew when it came out in the theaters when I was in my senior year of highschool, and later drove around listening to the soundtrack tape in my beat up Pinto with my friends. At the time I missed the whole Shakespaerian angle and just thought it was a mildly funny movie with some memorable quotes ("He once got our dead battery goin by mixin' bird feces and spit, cause there's like acids in it, eh?").
Twenty-five years later I decided to grab a copy from ebay and watch it again. Unlike other old movies and tv shows that I tried this with (Rambo, Space 1999, Battlestar Galactica) and found to be painfully bad after all this time, watching Strange Brew actually still made my wife and I laugh. My kids watched it ("Oh look, Dad's watching an old movie.") and laugh along with us. The chemistry between Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas who played the parts of Bob & Doug Mckenzie is still there. Although it will never be a classic, it has past the test of time as a campy, fun movie with some moments.
Now when I say old lines like "Go ahead, its a jelly!" and "Let me try, I'm a genius!" they actually know what I'm talking about...

Strange Brew strangely satisfying

For Gen-X'ers who remember SCTV and the Bob & Doug McKenzie routine with fondness, this goofy movie will provide you with viewing satisfaction. Enjoy the slapstick routines, 80s music and hairstyles (which are still fashionable in some parts of the Great White North, coincidently enough) and the zany antics of Bob & Doug as they battle an evil beer magnate scheming to take over the world with his "Strange Brew."

One beauty of a movie, eh?

This movie is an all time family favorite! It has so many clever and ridiculous aspects to it that it can't be done justice in a mere review. It must be experienced! Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas have a rare and unique chemistry that works on so many levels that they are truly in a league of their own--unless you compare them to the truly old school comedic duos of early television and movies. My only wish is that they would do more movies like this legendary measuring standard [at least in my book]. Buy it, you won't regret it.

Strange Brew. Eh?

Still a very funny movie! I recently found and bought the DVD Strange Brew. If you'd like to watch a hilarious movie starring two bumbling Canadians, this is the one! Little to none on the sexual inuendos and same for the bad language. eBay is probably the ONLY place you'll be able to find it!
