Streets of Fire

While this is a 1998 DVD, I think it was originally released in 1982. ( I have a child about the same age as this movie.)The music is great, and consists of original songs by Ry Cooder and Tom Petty. I saw Willem DeFoe for the fist time in this movie and just knew he would be someone to keep an eye on. While not real heavy on in-depth characters, it engages you nonetheless.Well worth the watch! I have told friends about this movie for years.

Streets of Fire is lots of fun

Streets of Fire is a rock drama of a different sort. The story is familiar one, the beautiful girl, the quiet hero, the dark punk, the sidekick, and the nerd. But, in between is a solid performance from a very young Diane Lane as our rebel goddess/singer,Michael Pare as our quiet but misunderstood hero,Willam Defoe is great as the pale faced badie. With Rick Moranis,Amy Madigan, and more.Set in a dark steamy city, with great 80's music, its has a bit of the Warriors, a little Grease and alot of (in my opinion )Eddie and the Cruisers. A must for any 80's cult classic collectors.

One of my TOP TEN movies of all time.
Created: 12/01/07
This film has special meaning for me on several levels. My wife and I were operating a small town movie theater during the summer of 1984 and we showed quite a number of notable movies (1984 was a good year for movies) such as "Romancing The Stone", "Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom", and a slew of others. But this was my favorite, hands-down!
Walter Hill is an interesting director: "The Long Riders", "Last Man Standing" w/ Bruce Willis, and a host of other really good films, many like this one with almost surrealistic performances. It is one you must see to believe/understand. There is a strong atmosphere of strangeness to it... almost a Twilight Zone Lite knid of feeling. For instance, all the cars are from the '40s or'50s... the cops drive around in a beat-up Studebaker, and yet the armament that Michael Pare's character uses has a modern quality, nearly a futuristic quality. Very interesting film from several perspectives. It is truly a "Rock and Roll Fable." And the music is great!
NOTE: The entire movie was filmed inside the world's largest sound stage: over a quarter-mile long and several city blocks wide! When you see it, you will find it difficult to believe it was all shot indoors. Enjoy!

Love This 80's Rock n Roll Fable!
Created: 17/10/06
Guy comes home at the urging of his sister. His ex-girlfriend , now a famous rock star, is in trouble - a gang plans on kidnapping her at a concert. Excellent cast and music, this is definately a cult classic - you either love it or hate it - and one of my favorites!
It is billed as a rock and roll fable and is very much in look and style like that. The colors are bright, the music is everywhere - but not a musical with people talking in song - and the script is funny and witty.
Highly recommended. This was directed by Walter Hill who also did The Warriors. While not the same they do have a similar feel of adventure about them.
