Album Notes
The Strokes: Julian Casablancas (vocals); Nick Valensi, Albert Hammond, Jr. (guitar); Nikolai Fraiture (bass); Fab Moretti (drums).Recorded at Transporterraum, New York, New York. This limited edition of IS THIS IT contains a bonus DVD with three videos and two un-aired TV performances. The Strokes: Julian Casablancas (vocals); Nick Valensi, Albert Hammond, Jr. (guitar); Nikolai Fraiture (bass); Fab Moretti (drums).Recorded at Transporterraum, New York, New York.Personnel: Julian Casablancas (vocals); Nick Valensi (guitar); Fabrizio Moretti (drums).Recording information: Transporaterraum, New York, NY; Transporterraum, New York, NY.Arriving on a wave of well-earned hype rooted in tight chops and a confident swagger, the Strokes offer a rock & roll antidote to the plague of boy bands, teen divas, and petulant rap-rock outfits. Despite this quintet's prep-school background, their sound comes from the same primordial ooze that spawned Big Apple legends like the New York Dolls and the Velvet Underground.Clocking in at 36 minutes, IS THIS IT packs its perfect length with stellar songs that draw inspiration from all over the map. Among the many highlights are "Last Nite" with its insistent Motown backbeat and choppy Johnny Thunders-like guitar solo, "Barely Legal," sounding like 1980s-era Cure fronted by a saucy Iggy Pop, and the jangly "Someday" with its hairshirt of vulnerability from a bad break-up. While frontman Julian Casablancas (son of Elite Models founder John) drawls like Lou Reed through a busted intercom, guitarists Nick Valensi and Albert Hammond Jr. do Tom Verlaine and Richard Lloyd proud as their sinewy chords intertwine to great effect on the angular "The Modern Age" and equally neurotic "Alone, Together." Thanks to the Strokes, rumors of rock & roll's demise appear to have been greatly exaggerated.

Is This It is one of the best albums of the last decade hands-down. The guitar riffs/solos and lyrics are unlike those of any bands around today. Don't believe me? Listen to their songs and watch their music videos on thestrokes.com before you buy and see for yourself!!

This IS IT - THE STROKES - A BOULDER ON A MOUNTAINSIDE!

Created: 14/12/06
The rotten radio grinds to a halt and as it does a question is posed: Is This It? Answer: This IS IT!!! In 2001 The Strokes delivered an album that will carry you as it carried me, with them as they rode the waves of Raw Rock & Roll, across the vast ocean of fame and fortune. Fast, furious, syncopated, clean, driving, building, destroying, passionate, and purposeful, "up on a hill, here's where we begin... this little story a long time ago, stop to pretend, stop pretending, it seems this game is simply neverending..." sings Julian, lead singer of The Strokes. "It feels like nothing at all, except that maybe it is." After 5 years of rocking this album nearly every day, it hasn't grown a bit old, and I'm sure it likely never will. When it comes on my IPOD during shuffle, it still makes me want to get up and shake my entire body in wild rebel rousing dance, it makes my lungs want to breath deeply and my voice to sing loudly along, my fingers to turn the speakers up to 11! If you have a 14 to 29 year old man in your life who likes to rock, this album is likely to fall perfectly upon his ears!

Great Mellow Music

Created: 07/05/07
The music is great. It's very mellow and perfect to listen to while driving. I was always a fan of the song "Last Night" and i wanted to see what the rest of the cd was like. It took me about 2 listens all the way through to start liking it as much as i do now. I couldn't be happier with this cd.

Is This It by Strokes CD

Created: 13/08/10
Not a huge fan of the Strokes in general, however this CD was really good. I enjoy listening to it every now and then. A friend told me about the song Barley Legal which is my favorite. The rest of the songs are decent. If you can pick up the CD at a reasonable value like I did, you cannot go wrong. Enjoy!
