Hope all car dealerships aren't like this one!!

Suckers is a comedy/drama takes you into the sleezy world of a used car dealership. Having worked at a car dealership myself, I was hoping for a fairly realistic representation of the business and I wasn't disappointed. Granted, this type of "hit the customer over the head and bury them in a huge monthly payment" dealership is thankfully rare, but they exist. If anything this movie may help you make a better deal on your next car because some the sales techniques shown in the film are actually used in real dealerships.
My favorite character is the bald headed General Manager, Reggie, played by Daniel Benzali. He nailed it with the sleezy look and obnoxious one-liners. His scenes in the training room are classic!
Caution, there's TONS of swearing and several racial slurs, so it's not for everyone. But if you are looking for a funny and sometimes disturbing movie with a good twist, then take Suckers for a test drive.

I have been selling for about 15 years and actually worked my first sales job in the store where they filmed this. The dealership is the old Valley Park Forf in Canoga Park CA. The only thing that is not realistic in this movie is the 10,000.00 Top Sales Bonus and having only one girl in the back office (Lori Laughlin). Other than That Dead on Detail. Sell Cars or have Sold Cars in the past You must get this movie!!! One thing you might not want to do is lend it out because I have gone thru 2 Copies and Will Never loan my copy out again Because I will never see it again.

Old Movie Same Jokes

I was previously a manager at a cellphone company for a few years. I noticed the company was going under due to bad management on the other side of town and out of state areas. With the warning signs going up I went looking for another job. I was told by many people that I should try carsales. So, I did. While in a training one day I heard some guys make some refrences to a movie called "Suckers". So, I looked it up. My local store didnt have it but Ebay did...
The movie was good (for its time) and had a lot of truth behind it. Things that still go on today. From jokes to strokes and back to pokes, those salesmen resemble some of the salesmen today. I enjoyed the movie with my wife who know thinks thats how it is in the car business. Just to clear things up...There still are some of those elements remaining, but the honesty has improved.

I bought this movie because my group of friends are all in some sort of sales and it was recommended to me by another salesperson as being "right on" about the internal sales office and desking deals. The movie was at the edge of the envelope as far as lines, acting, and actual plot line. It takes a twist at the end, which surprised us all and probably made the movie worth watching. I won't spend a lot of time watching it over and over and would be selective when recommending it to others...lots of really bad lanquage and violence. Definitely a "c-grade" or lower movie, but car salesman would probably get a kick out of it.

Oh the joy of buying a car. Some dealerships could use this film as a training tool. This movie is set in the 1990's during the "Rip the customer's head off" period of car sales. The movie follows an average guy as he begins his sales career with the "top grossing" dealership in the area. He rapidly moves from "Green Pea" to top salesman. The drug trafficing back story doesn't ad much to this highly entertaining and enlightening movie. As a car saleperson I would not recommend you watch the HOW TO BUY A CAR section in the DVD extras. Overall a fun film with believable characters.
