Product Information
The Suffering captures the disturbing and terrifying nature of the horror genre in a third-person action/adventure game set in the mature and gritty world of a maximum-security prison. The player controls the prisoner Torque, a hardened inmate in his late 20s, sentenced to die for a murder he may or may not have actually committed. Slightly mentally instable, Torque has flashbacks to the events from his past, throbbing images that depict the events that lead up to the crime for which he was imprisoned. The game features nine levels, frightening character morphs, and more than 10 deadly weapons from the shiv to the tommy gun to aid in the survival of this freakish nightmare.

    I give it a 7.7 out of 10.

First of all the game was released in 2004. Second of all, I think the graphics are out of date for that year and the controls need work. Third and best of all this was an actually good game. what I like about this game is that the setting is different from all other action games I played. "Torque" who is the main character is locked up in prison for supposedly killing his wife and kids, but has no memory of it. So while in prison, hell starts to break loose and these monster start killing CO's and inmates. The story from here gets better and this game will keep you entertained or maybe scared since it's a little bit on the spooky side. This game is packed with alot of action and if you liked resident evil than this game is for you since this game IS similar to it.

Bad ass game about killing monster in prison=good times

    Created: 06/12/07
Title about sums it up. I bought it because i like really violent video games and I like horror movies. It was a good combination. Different than Resident Evil and Silent Hill in that half the game wasn't about solving puzzles. It's what you'd expect. Run around a prison over run by demons. Collect weapons along the way. Stuff jumps out at you. You kill it. the story is very intriguing and you get to direct the courses the story takes. An added bonus to the game was your in game conduct gives way to 3 different endings. Apparently, if you you beat the game, and it is saved on your memory card, and you start playing the sequel (Suffering, Ties That Bind), the new has 3 different beginnings, depending on the ending of the first game. If you like 3rd person shooters, creepy dark areas, and angry monsters, this would be a good choice.

    Fantastic, atmospheric game

    Created: 01/03/09
The Suffering is a third-person shooter that was grossly overlooked by the masses upon it's release. Portraying a typical silent hero, you're Torque, a man alone in a prison on a haunted island, with creatures representing the various methods of throughout the island's sordid history, begin manifesting, attempting to kill you.

Packed with various "moral choices," you have the option of being a hero, a villain, or largely neutral to the goings on of those you encounter throughout the game. It's packed with intense music, visceral scenes, and a ton of jump-in-fright moments in the game, the atmosphere by far is the best thing going for this game.

The graphics are a little dated by today's standards, and the controls could use some work, but other than that, I highly recommend picking this up if you can find it.

    The Suffering (Playstation 2)

    Created: 10/11/06
From the start of the game, the eerie and original sounds/sound track lured me in. the graphics, amazing, detailed and creepy. But wait! It got better. The creatures.....hellraiser-ish? Perhaps. Lots of action! this game delivers and depending on the choices/decisions you make (yes you have choices here) the game adjusts. So, lots of repeat game play if you want all with different consequenses. The voice acting is outstanding as well!!!! Laguage is VERY EXPLICIT. I MEAN VERY!!! Not for little children.
This game ate up many happy horror survival hours of my life. It's time WELL wasted!!
If you are a fan of resident Evil, you'll enjoy this!!! Perhaps even MORE that res evil!!
Now, I am off to play part 2 of the suffering: The Ties That Bind.
I give this ganme the highest rating possible. For Adults ONLY!
    Pure enjoyment!

    A great unknown treasure find

    Created: 17/05/08
I bought the game because it's got a good review from one of the game magazines.
But with no high expectation due to its low/reduced retail price, I didn't care much of it until I actually played it.

I played other horror games such as resident evil(most of series), silent hill(1,2,3,4), fatal frame, etc,
but the game's got a different story to begin with and a somewhat different style as other games may have shown in the past.

It's a 3 year old game, and I think it's still good enough to compete with other newer games out there for ps2.

Overall, I recommend this game to try as I've enjoyed playing this game.
Certainly, you can't beat the price.
