Movie synopsis

Nintendo video game perennials Mario and Luigi come to life as plumbers who are thrust into a parallel dimension peopled by the descendents of dinosaurs. It seems that the meteor that hit the earth 65 million years ago (in Brooklyn, no less) didn't kill the dinosaurs, but hurled them into a world in which they have developed into a species of intelligent humanoids. And it is up to the Luigi brothers to save Princess Daisy, and life as we know it, from the megalomaniacal Koopa, who wants to merge the two dimensions and rule the world that will result.

Super Mario Bros. (2003, DVD)

Super Mario Bros. is a movie based loosely on the popular videogame series. While the names and general stories are the same, you won't find Mario or Luigi squashing any goombas by jumping on their heads. The story follows Mario and Luigi as their ordinary day of plumbing in Brooklyn becomes wrapped up and a plot by the evil King Koopa to merge his world, which was split from the normal world after a meteor hit, with the normal world that we all know. The normal everyday plumbers then go on a crazy adventure through Koopa's world to save the Princess and thwart Koopa's plot.
I thought this movie was good and enjoyable, and if you have a few bucks laying around on a rainy day, you won't be disappointed for picking it up.

Super Mario Bros. Movie - Bob Hoskins, John Leguizamo

Created: 17/06/08
I enjoy sci-fi fantasy and comics so decided to collect movies following these themes. Usually, if there are sequels, I limit myself to the original unless the sequels are outstanding. Some of my favourites include Dune, Storm Troopers, Dick Tracy, Fifth Element and Tank Girl. Those films with a lot of horror or graphic violence, such as Alien, are usually not in my collection.

One of my favourite movies, and one very rarely shown on television,is Super Mario Bros. I just finished watching this movie and it put me right back in the game; great sound effects. The lead actors worked well together and were totally believable as the "brothers". Princess Daisy was sweet yet tough. All in all an otherwise dreary Monday night was saved by Luigi Mario and Mario Mario, the Super Mario Bros. Getting lost in a movie for the sake of being carefree is a luxury many of us have forgotten how to do but we could sure benefit from doing just that. S-o-o-o I guess it's time to dust off the old grey Nintendo box and settle in for a few hours of saving Princess Daisy (before I hit rewind on the DVD player and settle in for the second viewing).

It's a me, Mario Mario

Only true fans of the franchise can appreciate this odd gem. Those of you not familiar with this title, it is based on the popular video game series "Super Mario Bros." But don't think just because you know the games, you know what to expect with this movie... I see this movie as a nod to another great sci-fi title "The Fifth Element" The settings are different, the characters have a different flavor to them. When this movie first came out it was deemed a failure. But to me it seems like the odd mid-90's culture aged like wine. If you love Nintendo, and their games, give this movie a shot. You never know, you might have a taste for the strange and corny.
