Product Information
Nintendo was a pioneer in many ways, and of the best examples is Super Mario Kart for the SNES. The "kart-racing" sub-genre didn't even exist before Mario and Bowser took to the miniaturized asphalt and dropped their banana peels for the first time. Since then, many clones have joined the karting club, but none have come close to the awesome balance and charm found in the original SNES classic. With wonderfully designed single-player levels (and many of them!) and the most addictive two-player battle mode to grace the platform, SMK will never be forgotten. It's always amazing when the first is still the best, and Super Mario Kart definitely deserves the title "amazing."

Super Mario kart - Original and thats why we like it.

Created: 23/07/08
Super mario kart came out for the SNES in 1992, and it was definitely worth whatever cash the buyer had. if you had to pick Sega or SNES, it was defintely worth your time to buy an SNES and get mario kart with it. You see, Sega wasn't about quality, but quantity. they had a lot of games but very little original ideas, and whatever original ideas came to be were pretty much ignored. meanwhile, Nintendo had promoted their original ideas, and thus, mario kart was born.

In mario kart, the characters from the mario world race each other in go-karts. they each drive their own go-karts, and their weights and sizes affect their abilities (However, if you read the manual, it will tell you who's the best and who isn't overall. Peach and yoshi are the best, Toad and koopa are second, Mario and luigi are third, and Bowser and D.K. Jr are the worst)
The modes in the game are Grand prix (or GP) for one to 2 players, Time trial for one player, Verses for 2 players, and Battle for 2 players.
Grand prix will involve the player choosing what class of kart they wish to drive (50 cc, 100 cc, and then 150 cc, however, 100 cc must be completed for the 150 cc to be unlocked.) picking their characters and then racing for a certain cup (Mushroom cup, Flower cup, Star cup, and then Special cup, although to earn special cup, the player must win gold on Mushroom cup, Flower cup, and star cup in 100 cc class.) and each cup will have its set of races in which the player will race for points. whoever has the msot points at the end of the cup, wins gold. second gets silver, and 3rd gets bronze. any lower position, and the player will see a special screen in which the player's character is sitting next to the podiums crying.

For Time trial, the whole idea is to race any character to get the fastest time on any specific course.

Verses is a competitive race between two people on any specific course.

Battle is an original creation and a very, very popular one. the player picks their character and then they pick a special course which is in the shape of a square. inside the square is a whole bunch of item boxes in which the player will pick up items and try to rid their enemy of their 3 balloons.

I can't find any drawbacks to this game. it's that good. if you get into a bidding war with someone for this game on ebay, make sure you win. even if it goes beyond 20 bucks....

One of the top racing games ever made

Created: 04/05/09
This is my #1 Super Nintendo game and if there is a time I do not own it will be due to some cataclysmic event. Here are the game details...

The game Super Mario Kart is a car (or kart) racing game. In the game, you can play by yourself (against the computer) or with a friend...also trying to beat the computer's characters.

You can race on one of 3 courses: Mushroom - Easy
Flower - Intermediate
Star - Difficult

and there are 5 different tracks for each course. There are also 3 different speeds (or difficulty levels) to play at...50cc (easy), 100cc (intermediate) and 150cc (difficult). If you are able to place in the top 3 on the three 150cc courses, then you are awarded access to a SPECIAL track (the most difficult).

You have 8 different characters to choose from, and all characters are familiar, if you have played Nintendo's signature "Mario" games before. Each character has a counterpart who is similar in skill. Sometimes it is a good idea if you are playing a 2-player game, to play the counterpart character to the racer your opponent has chosen (so you will both be evenly matched)

The players are:
Mario (all around average; very good; medium weight)
Luigi (all around average; very good; medium weight)
Princess (relatively fast; light weight)
Yoshi (relatively fast; light weight)
Toad (fast acceleration; low top-speed; super light weight)
Koopa (fast acceleration; low top-speed; super light weight)
Bowser (slow acceleration; fastest top speed; heavy weight)
Donkey Kong Jr. (slow acceleration; fastest top speed; heavy weight)

The easiest to play and win with are Koopa and Toad due to their amazing handling and acceleration. Yoshi and Princess are a little more difficult. I've challenged myself to beat the 150cc Special Cup with a member from each group, but I have still yet to beat it will Bowser or Donkey Kong Jr. - their acceleration only hinders you if you are hit by something and you have to restart again or you play on races with lots of sharp turns where you need to brake (both of which are more frequent on the Special Cup).

All and all I've wasted countless hours playing this game and have not regretted it one bit. I've used this game to solve arguments, gamble with, and to pull all-nighters with.

SNES Super Mario Kart is fun for ALL AGES!

Created: 29/05/07
Super Mario Kart is a video game for the Super Nintendo System (or SNES) which was released in 1991. The game itself was released in the year 1992. It was a very popular game in North America and ended up being a "Player's Choice Million Seller Title". As well, it often ranks in the top 100 games, based on gamer's choice.

The game Super Mario Kart is a car (or kart) racing game. In the game, you can play by yourself (against the computer) or with a friend...also trying to beat the computer's characters.

Koopa (fast accelleration; low top-speed; super light weight)
Bowser (slow accelleration; fastest top speed; heavy weight)
Donkey Kong Jr. (slow accelleration; fastest top speed; heavy weight)

Aside from normal course racing, you can also play against your own fastest speed record (try to beat your own top speed) in the TIME TRIAL. No other players are on the course with you.
Or you can play another player to try to get the top course record in the MATCH RACE.
Or, you can play another player one-on-one in a fight to the finish with the BATTLE MODE. In Battle Mode, the opponents do not actually race each other. Instead, each player has 3 balloons surrounding their kart and the first person to lose their 3 balloons loses. (To play it is a lot more fun than to describe it). You have 4 different battle locations to choose from.

All in all, the game is easy to play, and fun for all ages.
From children, to teenagers, to adults, everyone will enjoy this game.
It's an "oldie but a goodie".

Hours of fun for you and your friends

Created: 14/03/06
Of all of the Nintendo Mario franchise, this game is probably one of the two most fun of the bunch. This game is full of silliness and is hours of fun and laughs. The game allows you to play one of the following characters:
Mario - all around good
Luigi - all around good
Princess Toadstool - fast
Donkey Kong Jr. - pounder
Koopa Troopa - nimble
Yoshi - fast
Bowser - pounder
Toad - nimble

Depending on the mode of play, you could play solo and compete for the race trophies or the best times for the tracks. One cool feature allowed you to race against the ghost of the fastest time of the track so you could see immediately how to improve or how you were doing. There were 20 trakcs in different tiers to make advancing a challenge and fun.

Or you could an opponent in a on-on-one race, race against everyone or play battle mode. In battle mode, it was you against the other player only in an arena where you would drive to hunt each other down and use the available arsenal of weapons to destroy the other player. The first to strike three times won the battle. My friends and I would play this for hours on end destroying each other. The only downfall of this game was that you couldn't play against more people.

A Must Have Classic

Created: 16/03/08
Pros: Plenty of Game Play Variants; Varying Difficulty Levels to Accommodate All Players
Cons: None

Super Mario Kart for the SNES is the classic that put kart racing on the map. The game has eight classic characters, all with their own special abilities. There are also special power-ups which include lightning bolts, turtle shells, and feathers, among others. There are four basic game play modes.

Cup Mode:
The concept of this mode is that players must rank high enough to win a trophy. The cup mode is available in three difficulty levels: 50cc, 100cc, and 150cc. Winning trophies in the cup mode eventually leads to unlocking the Special Cup which provides 5 new tracks for racing. The Special Cup is playable only in 100cc and 150cc.

Versus Mode:
In this mode, two players select a track from the cup mode. The players compete against one another as well as the computer for first place.

Battle Mode:
In battle mode, two player compete against one another in an arena which is separate from the cup mode tracks. Each player is given three balloons. Players then drive around the arena to obtain power-ups to shoot at one another. The first player to run out of balloons loses.

Time Trial Mode:
In time trial mode, a single player races around a course, with no opponents, to attempt to obtain the best time.

Super Mario Kart is a must have game for anybody looking to expand their current collection, play an old classic, or for current generation gamers who wish to play a classic which has helped to carry the industry where it is today.
