    Synopsis
In 1979 few poker players understood the secret mechanics of poker strategy, but two-time World Series of Poker champion Doyle "Texas Dolly" Brunson changed all that with his revolutionary book SUPER SYSTEM. The book, coauthored with such poker professionals as Chip Reese, Mike Caro, and David Sklansky, explained the basic strategy for a variety of games including Razz, Draw, and Stud, but it was Brunson's chapters on No-Limit Texas Hold 'Em that provided the most profound revelations about how to play "power poker." Brunson offered three fundamental tips on how to play winning no-limit poker: aggression, aggression, and more aggression. Brunson advocated a tactic of relentless pounding that could, if properly implemented, run over a poker table. By his own admission, the book cost Brunson millions of dollars as players adapted to his style, but even decades later it is still considered the bible of the game.

First and Foremost I have to say in no way am I educated enough on the subject of journalism or poker to give an academic review of Super System. Thank god this isn't political science quarterly. So for those intermediate poker players or those who want a fresh look at poker I recommed this book. By most stanards this is the greatest book ever written on the subject. However like Citizen Cane and The Republic there are certain nuiances that only the true fanatic can appreciate. It covers the standard games (holdem, limit holdem, 7 card stud, low ball, razz, and deuce to seven.) Doyle does a great job of assembling a team of professional poker players. He allows them to give their tried and true experiences of poker the way it used to be. Some of the rules have changed but the basic strategy is more still there. It interesting to hear some of the jargon that they use. They created the terms that we so commonly hear on tv today. As I said earlier I this is a good book and a good buy. If you are a newby to the game I might hold off and try something a little more modern this book might confuse you in a home game or even at the casino. But if you been on the band wagon for about a year or if your game is really stale give these legend a try you'll be more than satisified.

Doyle Brunson is to poker what Babe Ruth was to baseball -- a larger-than-life giant of a man who not only helped to revolutionize and popularize the game he loved, but set the standard for achievement and excellence by which all other players are measured. Brunson won the World Series of Poker twice, but is perhaps better known for his greater contributions to the game. Twenty-five years ago, he co-wrote what has been called the "Bible" of poker -- "Super/System: How I Made Over $1,000,000 Playing Poker." He also pioneered higher virtues as one of the first respected voices in gambling to discuss the importance of honor and trust amongst his peers. Brunson came to personify the notion that gambling could be a respectable profession.
It should be noted that it has cost Doyle some sum of money in his own game by publishing this novel, and I couldn't be happier!!!

Awesome buy for anyone serious about poker!

I have been playing poker for several years but never Texas Hold'em until within the last year. This book is the Bible of poker, you don't want to play until you've had a chance to read this one! It has given me insight and confidence that I never had before. I went from being an average player, winning occasionally to consistently taking down big pots and having a winning average. This book has really helped me take my game to the next level and I am sure that it can do the same for anyone who purchases it!!! I would definately and without hesitation recommend this book for anyone who really wants to play with the big boys, I'm not quite there yet, but it's definately on the horizon thanks to the Super System book by the man, Doyle Brunson!

    Truly the Poker "Bible"

Simply, a must-have for any poker player. Extremely in-depth read in many games of poker including No-Limit Texas Hold'em and Limit Texas Hold'em. This is, however, not a book for beginners. Start out learning basic strategy with Ken Warren's Texas Hold'em book before reading this one.
