    Publisher's Note
Presents all three novels from the fantasy series set in the magical world of Shannara.

Twenty-five years ago, New York Times bestselling author Terry Brooks wrote a novel that brought to life a dazzling world that would become one of the most popular fantasy epics of all time, beloved by millions of fans around the world. Ten more Shannara books would follow. Now, for the first time in one elegant collector’s edition hardcover, and featuring an introduction by the author, here are the first three novels of that classic series: The Sword of Shannara, The Elfstones of Shannara, and The Wishsong of Shannara—the beginning of a phenomenal epic of good and evil.

    The Sword of Shannara
Long ago, the wars of the ancient Evil ruined the world. In peaceful Shady Vale, half-elfin Shea Ohmsford knows little of such troubles. But the supposedly dead Warlock Lord is plotting to destroy everything in his wake. The sole weapon against this Power of Darkness is the Sword of Shannara, which can be used only by a true heir of Shannara. On Shea, last of the bloodline, rests the hope of all the races.

    The Elfstones of Shannara
The magical Ellcrys tree is dying, loosening the spell that bars the Demons from enacting vengeance upon the land. Now Wil Ohmsford must guard the Elven girl Amberle on a perilous quest as she carries one of the Ellcrys’ seeds to a mysterious place where it can be quickened into a powerful new force. But dark on their trail comes the Reaper, most fearsome of all Demons, aiming to crush their mission at any cost.

    The Wishsong of Shannara
An ancient Evil is stirring to new life, sending its ghastly Mord Wraiths to destroy Mankind. To win through the vile growth that protects this dark force, the Druid Allanon needs Brin Ohmsford—for she alone holds the magic power of the wishsong. Reluctantly Brin joins the Druid on his dangerous journey. But a prophecy foretells doom, as Evil nurses its plans to trap the unsuspecting Brin into a fate far more horrible than death.

Thus begins Terry Brooks’s thrilling Shannara epic, an unforgettable tale of adventure, magic, and myth.

The classic series in one edition

    Created: 05/06/08
This edition holds the first three Shannara novels; The Sword, Elfstones and Wishsong. It follows the story of a family that is heir to what is sometimes a grave responsibility. All three novels taken together, as they are in this edition, make for a wonderful epic. It doesn't always end the way you want it to, but that is a realistic outcome.
It has been said this series is Tolkien for dummies. There are many similarities to The Lord of The Rings in The Sword of Shannara. Yet the storytelling is in a different style, and the plot does not follow. I do not give credence to this divisive line of thought; I believe they are both great fantasy series, each in their own right. Let the stories stand for themselves.
The sword of Shannara was my introduction to Fantasy fiction, and as such I am rather biased in my opinion. I will always have a copy of this book on my shelves, and give copies away to friends and family who are just starting in the fantasy genre. This is truly a classic.

Three Great Books for a Great Price!

    Created: 16/07/07
This three-novel compilation includes Terry Brooks' first three novels about a post-apocolyptic world, titled The Sword of Shannara, the Wishsong of Shannara, and the Elfstones of Shannara. The name Shannara is an Elven family name, not the name of the world as you might think at first glance.

Terry Brooks capitalized on the resurgence of the Lord of the Rings' popularity in the late 1970's by writing a story (The Sword of Shannara) that closely mirrored Tolkein's work. The Sword of Shannara is a great read in itself, but I would recommend not reading it and LOTR in the same few years. It is just a little too close to LOTR, and you will end up thinking about all the similarities instead of enjoying a great book.

The next two novels continue to closely mirror LOTR, but not quite as much as Sword of Shannara. I'd recommend getting this compilation and reading all three books. If you like these, you'll love Terry Brooks' other Shannara novels that continue and even improve upon this great saga.

Terry Brooks was the writer who got me into fantasy; his simple style is easy to read, but hard to put down. You'll get to know the characters as well as your own family. Enjoy these books, but remember to not compare them too much with Lord of the Rings.

    Worth your time

    Created: 03/07/09
Terry Brooks is truly a great fantasy author and his Shannara and Landover series are great! This trilogy (Sword of Shannara, Elfstones of Shannara and Wishsong of Shannara) is excellent. There are better literary reviews, but I would point out that these titles have good character development, engaging relationships, varied adversaries and worthy plot lines. These 3 titles were Brooks; initial works and are still incredible 25+ years later.

Shannara trilogy ; Whats within the four lands for you

    Created: 28/03/11
This is a great read for young and old alike if you have a taste for adventure. The language use is geared so both can embrace the complexities of its emotional content, which are the real catalyses behind the stories and its characters.
In it we find love, trust, and fellowship triumphing over narrow-mindedness, hate and mistrust. Characters pushed beyond the limitations of their own beliefs by emotion bounds with the improbable.
It’s these qualities that propel the stories to overreach the obvious fantasy modus operandi of evil creatures and magic. But one still wanders cross mountains, forest, valleys, and swamps, plunge deep into its catacombs, a store line that sweeps away the world in which we live placing you firmly in the perils of the author’s fertile imagination.
So pick up a book and join the mysterious Druid Allanon, with those who have the last resources to overpower malevolence. A rich and rewarding adventure I’m sure you will enjoy.

Sword of Shannara Trilogy by Terry Brooks

    Created: 20/02/08
What a wonderful idea to bring these books together as a Trilogy for a 25th anniversary. I can't say enough about all of Terrys books. He has put together the beginning- what a treasure.

If you have never read a fantasy novel of Terry Brooks be sure to read between the lines when you do as he is giving messages in a way few authors seldom do. He is a man of good values but recognizes evil and it will show thru in his books... read - read - read.

I have read Terry Brooks from the beginning. Having been from the same town and him having been my attorney thru a couple of divorces m/l (smiles) I read his first book as soon as it came out. I purchased this Trilogy as a souvenir as I own and have read all of his books.
