Here's the deal: after splitting from Them, Morrison did a singles session for American producer Bert Berns, which yielded the mega-hit "Brown Eyed Girl," included here, and the prototypes for a couple of tunes from Morrison's proper solo debut, ASTRAL WEEKS. Those sessions were unceremoniously packaged by Bang Records as BLOWIN' YOUR MIND in 1967. In 1970, Bang released five tracks from that album along with some other session outtakes, dubiously titled THE BEST OF VAN MORRISON (not to be confused with the Polydor compilation). In 1973, Bang released T.B. SHEETS, yet another combination of tracks from BLOWIN' YOUR MIND and outtakes. BROWN EYED BEGINNINGS, itself released in other countries under other names, contains every single cut from those Bang sessions, including almost an album's worth of ephemeral minute-long nonsense tracks Van recorded just to tick Bang off when they played contractual hardball. T.B. SHEETS is the essential version of those sessions, as it includes everything but the aforementioned nonsense tracks, which are notable only for their novelty value.

    Editorial Reviews
These are songs of innocence and experience -- the raw, unpaved bridge between young Morrison's stint fronting Irish garage-rock outfit Them and his acclaimed solo career.

    His unauthorised compilation

T.B Sheets is a 9 minute opus to a girl he watched dying from Tuberculosis. It is deeply personal and moving. This song + 4 others ('Brown eyed girl', 'He ain't give you none', 'Rosy' and 'Red sports car') were recorded in his first solo Bertie Berns sessions in New York way back in the summer of 1967. These and other tracks are available on his first solo album 'Blowin' your mind.'

The album TB Sheets is a bit of a 'cash-in' by London who owned the rights for those sessions and for those in November '67 during which Bertie Berns died, releasing Van Morrison from his contract. He moved away from London and recorded Astral Weeks. The November sessions make up the rest of this album, so, although it is a bit of a mish mash , its actually, quite a cohesive, introspective collection of songs, and an example of Van Morrison at his most raw.

However, there are a number of session tracks from November which curiously don't make it on to TB Sheets. Why? Who knows - you'd think it would make sense to compile all the session tracks onto one album wouldn't you?

There is an answer however. The budget Co MCPS have released 'Brown eyed girl.' This is a compilation of all the tracks from both sessions. It is essentially the complete 1st album 'Blowin' your mind' and 'TB Sheets' with bonus outtakes - all for about £2 in Woolies. Now, thats a bargain!

TB sheets does stand up on its own as a good album - but its not good value !

    Van Morrison: TB Sheets

     | Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.
    Created: 13/03/12
TB sheets is a collection of early Van Morrison songs. The sound and production on this album are sub par; and in no way does this match up to his work on "Moondance" or "Astral Weeks" which are his finest recordings. However for the true fan of Van Morrison, there is definitely something here for you. Specifically the song "TB Sheets", is a great track full of strong lyrics powerful vocals, and has a great jazz blues feel. Because there are only 8 songs here, this album is great for existing Morrison fans who want to hear the gritty sounds of his beginnings; but new fans of the artist may want to start with some of his later more accomplished work.

    A must Have

    Created: 03/08/09
One of the best atmosphere albums for that psychedelic blues era.
You can feel like your there smelling that T.B. sheets and wine.
He finish the album in those words: "Every time I see you I just don't know what to do" and I feel helpless and joy we have Van Morrison in the world with us.
    Go get it!!

The rare title song is A1-Van is one of the best ever!

    Created: 08/04/07
Being a music lover and an admirer of the artistic genius of Van Morrison, I knew I had to own this one the first time I heard TB Sheets. Never before in my 40 years had I heard this song, and it moved me. I knew what he was talking about and more so, all his feelings come through stunningly clear. If you like any of his work, (so full of variation) yet, through all the few overplayed songs have never heard this one, I think you'll agree that Van Morrison is one of the true, rare artists. His soul is wide open when he creates and performs his music and it comes through in this song as though you were in his life at that moment.
Owning this enhances my music library. It's one of those CD's you bring out and say "Hey, did you ever hear this one? It's so cool, you'll love this song."
