Movie synopsis

DISTRICT B13 helmer Pierre Morel directs this action-driven thriller. Liam Neeson (KINSEY) stars as a father who takes justice into his own hands when his daughter (Maggie Grace, THE FOG) is kidnapped. TAKEN also stars Famke Janssen., Liam Neeson is an unstoppable force in this adrenaline-fueled thriller from director Pierre Morel. Bryan (Neeson) has taken early retirement from the CIA in order to live closer to his teenage daughter, Kim (Maggie Grace). Bryan's government work kept him away from Kim for much of her childhood, and he's now trying to make up for lost time. When Kim announces that she's taking a trip to Paris with her friend Amanda (Katie Cassidy), Bryan is apprehensive about her traveling on her own. His worst fear is soon realized, as Kim and Amanda are abducted upon their arrival in France. Bryan immediately springs into action, using his well-honed CIA skills to piece together clues from a single, frantic phone call he received from Kim. He hops a plane to Paris, determined to rescue his daughter before she falls off the grid completely. With some help from his old CIA buddies, he tracks down the kidnappers--an Albanian crime ring known for selling young girls into the sex trade. He quickly takes matters into his own hands, plowing his way through Paris's underworld as the clock ticks down and the bullets fly. His search propels him into the upper echelons of a massive crime ring, putting him closer and closer to his beloved daughter.Neeson is known for tackling extremely cerebral roles, so it is interesting to see him in full-on action-hero mode. In TAKEN he is no less than a crime-fighting machine--a Bourne/Bond hybrid with a deathly serious baritone. And while he spends most of the film firing Uzis and snapping necks, he still manages to deliver a moving performance as an estranged father fighting for what he loves most in the world. The film undeniably owes a lot to Neeson's acting chops. He manages to raise this rather thinly plotted, deeply violent film a bar above your typical action fare.

Movie trailer and editorial reviews

"Morel directs much like his mentor Besson -- that's to say, very slickly, with an emphasis on glossy action sequences."
Sight and Sound - Geoffrey Macnab (11/01/2008)

"TAKEN is very much its own film, bolstered by director Morel's explosive, adrenaline-driven approach to staging action and a cleverly-constructed script..."
Box Office - Wade Major (01/28/2009)

"Neeson throws himself into this role, appearing in nearly every scene and making good use of a purposeful scowl that combines fury and disgust in equal measure."
Los Angeles Times - Kenneth Turan (01/30/2009)

"A satisfying thriller as grimly professional as its efficient hero, TAKEN pairs the ruthless hand-to-hand combat of the Bourne series with the potent child-in-peril plotline of a Lifetime original movie."
Washington Post (01/30/2009)

3 stars out of 5 -- "[T]his is an absolute hoot whose visceral, no-holds-barred fight and torture scenes...are brutal enough to make even Jack Bauer flinch."
Total Film - Neil Smith (02/20/2009)

3 stars out of 5 -- "Ex-cinematographer Pierre Morel brings much of the punishing brutality he injected into DISTRICT 13..."
Empire (03/01/2009)

"One of the biggest -- and most surprising -- hits of the year, TAKEN gooses a tired premise and turns it into a tense exercise..." -- Grade: A-

THEY TOOK HIS DAUGHTER, HE WILL TAKE THEIR LIVES

Created: 12/05/09
Features Actors:Liam Nelson, Maggie Grace,Famke Janssen,Xander Berkeley,Katie Cassidy,Nicolas Giraud
Running Time:93 Min.
Rating:PG-13

Bryan Mills (Liam Neeson) recently retired from a dangerous career as a CIA agent to settle down in California near the person he cares about most, his daughter, Kim (Maggie Grace). Ever since his ex-wife (Famke Janssen) got remarried to a filthy-rich businessman (Xander Berkeley), it seems like Bryan has become of less importance in his little girl's life.
For instance, at her 17th birthday party, his modest gift of a karaoke machine is overshadowed by the horse her step-dad could afford to surprise Kim with. The next day, she informs him for the first time of her impending plans to vacation in Paris with her best friend, Amanda (Katie Cassidy). Aware of the potential dangers which lay in wait for a couple of gullible tourists overseas, Bryan reluctantly signs the parental consent form
after Kim promises to call him everyday on her cell phone.
The naïve teenagers still find trouble as soon as they land at the airport when they unwittingly agree to share a cab with a cute guy named Peter (Nicolas Giraud). After checking into their hotel, Kim calls her father to let him know they've arrived safely. But while they're speaking on the phone, the room is broken into by a gang of Albanian mobsters obviously tipped-off by Peter.
Bryan listens helplessly, collecting clues until the line goes dead, and is calm and collected enough to discern that Kim and Amanda have been kidnapped. He immediately kicks it into high gear, leaving for Europe on the next flight. Once there, he's too impatient to give the police a chance to to crack the case.
Instead, the desperate dad turns vigilante, taking the law into his own hand. Relying on his experience as an international spy, Bryan embarks on a one-man, adrenaline-fueled rampage to track down the creeps before they sell his daughter to sex traders.

This heart-stopping revenge flick written by Luc Besson is easily Liam Neeson's most memorable performance since his Oscar-nominated outing in Schindler's List.Hope this helps you decide. Thanks for reading! :)

Roller Coaster Thrill-Ride

Loved the edge of your seat thrill ride this movie provides - No problem suspending my disbelief for this Liam Neeson flick. Relying on his special skills, he tracks down the ruthless gang that abducted her and launches a one-man war to bring them to justice and rescue his daughter." Lives up to the hype

Created: 12/05/09
Liam Neeson (Schindler's List, Michael Collins & Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace and many more titles) stars as a retired CIA agent in this action packed thriller.

When his daughter Kim, played by Maggie Grace (The Fog, Suburban Girl & The Jane Austen Book Club) is abducted in Paris Neeson springs into action using his former skills to track down the abductors and find his daughter.

Once you get past the introduction of the characters the movie is full of action with car chases, foot chases, hand to hand fighting and much more.

The nearly 57 year old Neeson is not particularly known as an action star but his pulls this role off with flying colors.

The movie carried a lot of hype into it's DVD release and it manages to live up to most of that hype.

I rate this movie a solid 4 of 5 and recommend it for it's good action and drama.

Taken it's great

Created: 10/05/09
Taken is about a former spy Bryan Mills (Liam Neeson) who's daughter Kim (Maggie Grace) and friend Amanda (Katie Cassadie) get kidnapped. They were then sold into the sex slave world. But They kidnapped the wrong girl, Bryan comes for them with a vengeance.

This movie is an excellent action film. Liam Neeson is incredible and his character is believable. He seems to stay calm during the entire ordeal. He shows no mercy or fear when it comes to finding his daughter. Bryan takes out everyone in his way and stunning fight and shooting scenes. Just great action!
There are no plot twists in this movie and it is one that stays with you.

It also shows the incredibly disgusting world of the sex slave/trade business. I cannot believe that this is actually going on. The scenes made me sick to my stomach and really opened my eyes.

In essence this is a must see action film. This movie flies by and has you begging for more. Taken is one of the best action films I have seen in a long time and I just can't say enough. Even if you are not into action movies you still need to watch Taken. I give it a strong 9/10
