Talmud Bavli: Tractate Kesubos : The Schottenstein Edition (2000, Hardcover, Bilingual)

I enjoy studying the Talmud and this edition is an excellent aid to study. It contains an English translation as well as notes on the main text that reflect the commentaries and ideas of the foremost scholars in history.
The volume I purchased (there are 73 in the complete set) is in excelent condition and I look forward to buying others like it.

I use this edition of the Talmud with my study partner as well as son. I use the English as well as Hebrew versions which are just as good. Why? Here are a few reasons which I believe anyone should consider in learning with these volumes:
1)Readable english translation. As opposed to the archaic Soncino english version from 50 years ago. It's not JUST an explanation, but a commentary as well built into the translation.
2)Explanation of Talmudic concepts.
3)Explanation of sources from Rishonim and Achronim that explain more fully the understanding of the pshat of the Gemara.
4)Lots of footnotes and source material to check further on your own.
5)Great to follow the Daf Yomi, on your own or with a group. Miss a day? This version is ideal to catch up, or even go ahead a day or two!
6)Does not treat the Talmud as a academic tome, rather, a living work to be used, understood and acted upon.
7)Finally (though I guess there are other good things I can say about this and the entire series), you can become a "virtual" scholar learning on your own. But one bit of warning, to make the maximum use of these volumes, one MUST have someone to guide him/her and have a give and take relationship, otherwise, you will end up being a donkey carrying a load of books with no ability to put the information you've stored in your memory banks to good use!
For all of the above, I recommend getting this and all the other volumes; they make great gifts to Bar/Bat Mitzva boys and girls or a bride and groom. They'll appreciate it!
