Full frame Gem!
Created: 19/10/10
I shoot professionally and have used a number of wide angle lenses in various formats on digital and film, including zeiss and other brand names including Cannon or Nikon. I generally steer away from non brand lenses. My subject matter varies from landscapes to architecture to people or large groups on location. I also used some third party lenses with mixed results when it relates to the images they deliver. Some suffer from issues with sharpness, color distortion and the like. And with any wide andle there are sacrifices. For the money however, this lens is a hidden gem and unless you can't handle its relatively inexpensive price you would be a fool to spend more on a brand name lens that delivers a like range and similar quality images. [It is moreover like a 20 to 35 but it is very hard to tell] I shot this lens on a digital full frame sensor, wide open and as wide as it would go to examine the results. While there was a lack of sharpness on the outer edges due to distortion as expected, it was quite minimal and the color and lack of any fall off the lens delivered was consistent all over and excellent. I was very impressed with this lens and will use it for clients work and personal use. It delivered output equivalent to a name brand lens such as my Nikon of similar format and on a full frame sensor it was more than acceptable. Unless you need to shoot 14mm all the time and spend over a grand for a lens, this lens will adequately handle most wide angle work you throw at it. The lens is not outdated in any way and Tamron certainly got this lens right. I have "newer" third party lenses that do not work as well, including some at greater the price which provide circus mirror quality images, despite magazine review favorable recomendations. The suggested MSRP I saw for this lens was $238.00 and I got mine for far less making it an even better value. Pass over the $1400 wide angle and you won't regret getting this lens.

Not a great lens!!

I purchased this used lens as I wanted to try wide angle shots. The lens is very soft and image quality is poor if you zoom in or crop the picture. Works okay if stopped down past f/8 and okay only as a whole picture without cropping as image degrade quickly. This goes for the whole 19-24mm range. I guess you get what you pay for as it is a cheap lens. Email me if you want to buy it:o)

Not 100% compatible with canon rebel XT. Doesn't offer a wider angle than 29° with crop sensor. Works with older non digital model.

Great Lens for the Money

I Purchased this lens as a backup to a Canon 16-35 L Lens. a few years ago. AS it turned out it was a very good move. On a shoot the Canon Lens was broken.
The Tamron filled in very nicely. I would rate the Tamron 19-35 as a 8.8 and rate the Canon a 9.8. As for the $ value of the Tamron a 10++. A GREAT LENS FOR THE MONEY.
