A decent cheap AF telephoto lens.

I got this much cheaper than retail price. I wanted a lens to get me closer to animals at the zoo or people playing sports. It serves the purpose well, given the price point. Like most lower end zoom lenses, it's a compromise. It is soft wide open and prone to CA wide or long. The build quality of the lens is great. Probably nicer than anything made by Nikon or Sigma for the same price point. AF is slow, just like other lenses in this pricerange. You have to hold still when using it if you're not using a mono/tripod since it does not have image stabilization. I've used both the cheaper version of Tamron's 70-300 and the Di model which I bought on ebay. The cheaper version performs almost identically and has vibrant color delivery. The only downside of the cheaper model is that the lens material feels cheaper. I was impressed with both lenses, given their cheap purchase price. I have no preference over Nikon or Sigma brand lenses and was just shopping around for a deal. That's how I wound up with the Tamron lens. So far, so good.

I bought the Tameron A17 for my Pentax K2000, and love it. This lens works wonderful, no problems matching up to my pentax camera! This lens makes my camera do all of the things that I wanted it to do when I bought it. I have taken close up pictures of my kids playing soccer and volleyball. We have taken close up pictures of wildlife! The lens focuses fast and perfectly! Great sharp imagaes again and again. I have taken pictures of loved ones across the room and then never even knew I was taking pictures of them. This lens does what every expensive lens does but with a price that I could afford. I would buy another Tamron lens or accesories over the pricery ones again. You will not be disappointed.

I read reviews before purchasing this lens; was a little skeptical from some I had read concerning my model D60; but I am delighted with it! It DOES automatically focus with my camera (some reviews said it would not), which pleases me thoroughly!!! I have only had it few days; still need to play around with it some more but from what I have been able to do with it so far, I absolutely love it and could not be happier!! Highly recommend!!!

I just love it. I just purchased a new Pentax camera and wanted a longer lens. It really makes things come in close and picture quality is still good.
