A Foreign Correspondent's Search for Her Cultural and Spiritual Identity

What began as an assignment from her editor at the Wall Street Journal to investigate "America's hottest new fad," the secrets of sexual ecstasy in Tantra, became a story that would lead reporter Asra Nomani halfway around the world and change forever her life, faith, and self-identity. From a New Age Tantric seminar in Santa Cruz to sitting at the feet of the Dalai Lama in India, from meditation caves in Thailand to crossing the Khyber Pass with Muslim militants and staring down the barrel of an Afghan soldier's AK-47, Nomani's trek unexpectedly climaxes in Pakistan, where she risks great danger in joining the hunt for kidnapped fellow reporter Danny Pearl. She travels the globe in search of this elusive "divine love," but ultimately hers is a journey of self-discovery in which the divine within herself and within all women -- all "tantrikas" -- is revealed.

Has the wrong TITLE! It's all about her not TANTRA!

    Created: 07/01/10
I am a book nut! I have read thousands of books and I was sooo looking forward to this read. My co workers were also looking forward to reading it after I finished, so in their honor I purchased 2 of these terribly written poor excuses for a book about the art of the tantra...

OMG... I will not allow them to read this MESS of a book. #1. I am quiet certain that the book was not edited! #2. There were so many mispelled words and 52 word run on sentences that it made my head spin! #3. I had to reread several parts 2 or 3 times because I wasn't getting what she was trying to say! #4. She bounces around like a 5 year old on a sugar high! Something you find yourself thinking, "Yeah here it goes. It's about to get good!". Then suddenly, it's like she lost her train of thought and goes of somewhere else.

At one point I was sitting there thinking that maybe it was just because I was too tired to read. So I asked my sons girlfriend to pick up the other book and read along with me. She loves books as much as I do and I wanted to see her reaction. After She saw the title, she said that the others should also read the book.... then she started. I watched as she would read, make a squishy little face and reread. She would stop and look at the back cover, reading the reviews written by other authors who liked the book and evidently understood what this woman was talking about. She finally looked over at me and simply said, "What IS this book about?" And that is my point exactly!! This book is Seinfeld... It's a book about NOTHING'!! It rambles on and on about NOTHING. It has very little to do with TANTRA!! The book is not only poorly written, it's poorly edited and has the wrong title!

I bought it because of the title AND the reviews that I read! I am extremely disappointed with everything about this book. Therefore, I'm writing this review to tell others "Don't waste your time" or you'll be just as disappointed. It was the worst book I have ever attempted to read. Hands down #1 on the BOOKS NOT TO READ LIST.
