Stevens manages to have his cake and eat it too, simultaneously achieving pop accessibility and artistic relevance. While inviting rhythms (buoyed by Stevens's dynamic acoustic strumming) and pop hooks abound, the feel is decidedly gentle and spare. Apart from the occasional string section, Stevens is accompanied only by a three-piece band as he sings his introspective lyrics with appreciable fervor. While there are some relatively conventional love songs here ("Hard Headed Woman," "Wild World"), the most memorable moments come when Stevens's lyrics venture further afield. "Father and Son" is a poignant but realistic and unsentimental portrait of the generation gap, capable of reducing any given dad or junior to tears. "On the Road to Find Out" and "But I Might Die Tonight" reflect Stevens's existential dilemmas, and the resulting spiritual quest that would later lead him to embrace the Islamic faith. The graceful beauty of arrangements, performances, and songs makes TEA FOR THE TILLERMAN a folk-rock classic.

If u like Cat Stevens!?

Created: 10/10/09
I was turned on to Cat Stevens, this Cd to be exact, except way back then it was an album, when I went to stay with my Uncle and his family in Jupiter, FLA. the summer after graduating jr. high! I was 14 yrs. old and fell in love with him and his music then and have never tired of it! This is one of his best albums, the music is still relevant today! If u like Cat Stevens u must own this one! I am so happy to have found it again!! I actually tried to order it from several music stores with no results! So, sure enough I found it on Ebay! I am trilled to own it again! Now I have to order his greatest hits!! He also did the soundtrack for "Harold and Maude" and if you are a cult movie fan like me- his CD "Gold" has two of the great songs from that soundtrack! I haven't found the soundtrack, not even on here, so his "Gold" CD is about as close as I think u can get! So, if u like Cat Stevens..... ~801regina~

Fabulous album!

This is a two thumbs up for me. It's seems to be the ONLY album anywhere with "Longer Boats" on it,
which is my favorite C.S. song. The only thing that makes me sad is to realize Cat "died" many years ago.
He was replaced with someone no longer recognizable. What a loss. The album is the best.

Tea For the Tillerman

Cat Stevens is still an important part of music. His distinct voice has never been replicated that I know of. Gus music is mellow and the words of his songs always have meaning. There aren't too many artists now that qualify as great, as Cat Stevens is. Great CD! I couldn't be more pleased.
