Great organic and versatile tube amp tones. A bit pricey.

Having heard an Ampeg V4B close up I knew I had to get that sound. However, my budget doesn't stretch to Ampeg gear, and I'm not that keen on heavy fragile tube bass amps. I don't like standard bass overdrive /distortions - they just mess up my tone and sound nothing like a real amp. The Sansamp VT is just the job. Anywhere from thumpy Motown to full on grind this box does it. I use it mainly as an add on, but a lot of people have their's on all the time. I have it set up to give an Entwistle/Stranglers/Jam/pub-rock tone. I got this to replace a Behringer BDI21, which is basically a Sansamp rip-off. The construction of the Behringer is very similar and it was a quarter of the price of the Sansamp. However, the Sansamp sounds noticeably more 3 dimensional. The Behringer sounds a bit flat in comparison, (still not too bad though - great for the money). The Sansamp VT seems like a lot of money for basically a box and a few components, but it will give you a wide range of organic tube amp tones. Nothing else sounds like this short of a real proper tube bass amp.

I have been looking for way to add more bottom to my Jazz Bass's sound without muddying the sound with too much bass EQ. The VT Bass in my amps external processing loop lets me do that and more. I can blend in however much of the VT's sound I want and either sweeten the bottom end or go the other way and dirty up the sound with tube emulated distortion. This product does all that is promised. I also have a Tech21 Sans Amp Programable DI, the VT Charactor works best with my Jazz Bass but the Sans Amp DI works better with my Prescision Bass and my Ibenez active 5-string. Don't know why, it just sounds that way. Great product, glad I got it.

Usefull on stage, for recording, to give a good sound to a crapy amp,... sounds excellent when pluged on the return of the effect loop of any amp. Excellent tool for a foolish price.

Great item if you want a simple way to get great tone live or in the studio

This pedal is great. Really simplified my setup for recording bass. Solid tones. While the deluxe one allows presets, this one is cheaper and sounds just as good, so I'm ok with having one setup.
