Editorial Reviews
5 stars out of 5 -- It sounds great...from the inflammatory guitar intro to the momentous 'Once' to the final handsome drift of 'Release,' it's a resplendent thing.
Uncut

5 stars out of 5 -- It's an exhilarating punk howl....It's a batch of outsider's tales coursing with beefy swagger...
Blender

4 stars out of 5 -- TEN is a classic of the grunge era, its super-sized anthems and introspective mood pieces powerfully voiced by Eddie Vedder...
Mojo

4 stars out of 5 -- [With] classic songwriting that wasn't afraid to wear its influences on its sleeve....The freewheeling guitars of 'Even Flow' and 'Jeremy' sounded vintage even then, so it's no surprise that they've held up so well after all these years.
Q

The hit singles 'Jeremy' and 'Alive' wove serious lyrical subject matter to flurrying guitar solos and singer Eddie Vedder's hectoring vocals...
Q

With its nod to classic '70s rock in the shotgun guitars and engaging Vedder's ragged, back-to-the-wall fury dissecting a fractured family life anthem like 'Alive' and 'Jeremy' sound as relevant and impassioned today as they did on the original release.
Kerrang

[T]hese songs are as touching today as the day they came out...
Kerrang

Performance Challenging / Recording Good - ...the band sounds larger than life, producing a towering inferno of roaring guitars, monumental bass and drums, and from-the-gut vocals...the tunes here surge, ebb, and surge again...

4 Stars - Excellent - ...a raucous modern rock, spiked with infectious guitar motifs and powered with driving bass and drums...may well be the face of the 90's metal...

4 stars out of 5 -- 'Alive' hits harder; 'Black' feels broader in scope; and Eddie Vedder's soaring vocals on 'Oceans' shine brighter.

One of the top albums to come out of the Grunge era!

Created: 12/09/06
Few bands can claim the success or critical acclaim of a debut album, than Pearl Jam and their initial CD - Ten!
Released in 1991, this was a pivotal CD in the Grunge era; selling more copies than Nirvana's Nevermind - the poster child for this music genre!
Pearl Jam achieved more fame than they ever expected or indeed wanted with this roaring , rocking album. Eddie Vedder has a strong almost haunting voice as he sings deeply personal lyrics - take the Beautiful, strong yet highly emotional! The there's Jeremy - a superb and to the point song which is obscured by the fact that the video received more attention with the horrifying images of a classroom shooting which alludes to the protagonist killing himself infront of those who taunted him! The lyrics show talent and thought and the song is so melodic and listenable!
Evenflow - though not one of my favorites as I feel it is overplayed on the airwaves today, simply rocks and Alive again combines twisted lyrics with work that simply rocks and indeed works!
Oceans takes thier musical direction in a whole new turn, the deep just kicks it up a notch again!
Eddie Vedder and his distinctive vocals along with deep, emotive and personal lyrics, make this album a true standout among not only the Grunge era but among music in general! I could not be without this CD!

Sugar Free and FULL of calories

Created: 11/09/08
For those of you who missed 1991, gimme a break it's in reruns all the time...

These guys were probably The Who of their day, exploding out of somewhere way west of Spokane. As to why it's TEN? No, I wasn't buying records pell-mell so I don't know much about 1-9 and there are ELEVEN songs.

This was probably their penultimate album, the one with most of what you remember them for. From the obvious throwback to Aqualung (Even Flow), the strange classic tale of finding life is NOT what you think (Alive), Black (saw heavy airplay but I never recall it until I hear it) and Jeremy...

What can I say about Jeremy? He "spoke" in class yesterday! He was six feet deep from the first note.

This is an album you will eventually search for unless the record company goes and puts out a greatest hits package, and then you probably will anyway. This band never seems to record a clinker, even if you never heard it on the radio.

(If you like this music you are already thinking they don't play music on the radio anyway)

Pearl Jam's Ten is a Perfect Ten!

Created: 07/08/08
I first heard Pearl Jam's Ten on a copied cassette way back in the early 90s. It was well before the album became a hit since it had been out nearly a year before the rest of the world heard its greatness. Anyway, I grew up in a rural community that didn't even have a Wal-Mart, but despite this, there was a group of people who would buy alternative tapes, dub them, and share them with friends. This was my first experience with Pearl Jam.
Ten has been in my life ever since. I've worn out about four CDs, and continue to keep this album in regular rotation on my ipod. It's a brilliant album from beginning to end. While some may argue that it's front loaded, I find that each and every song has something to offer. Sometimes, I prefer to hear the lesser-known gems like "Porch," and "Release" over the still fabulous but overplayed Jeremy or my favorite rock-out song "Alive." My most beloved track on the album is "Black," a song I consider to be the most earnestly beautiful love song ever written.
This is a perfect album, and certainly one every rock music fan should own. At ebay prices, Ten is worth every penny. Once you play it, you'll want to relive the experience again and again.

One of the best Rock Cd's Ever!

Created: 29/08/08
Just about everybody on the planet has heard a couple of tracks from this CD. It is, by far, one of the most influential CD's of the modern rock and roll era. With tracks like Alive, Black & Jeremy, this album is a must have for anyone who claims to be a fan of music. Epic lyrics and driving beats covered by beautiful guitar work. They were way ahead of their time and continue, to this day, to impress with their ability to release quality music. This is where it all started. Grab the disc, sit back and listen to a group of rock legends!
