    Publisher's Note
Growing out of the author's own gratitude to a special teacher from her childhood, an illustrated story features a little girl whose reading problem is alleviated thanks to a dapper, fun-loving teacher who recognizes her potential.

Little Trisha is overjoyed at the thought of starting school and learning how to read. But when she looks at a book, all the letters and numbers just get jumbled up. Her classmates make matters worse by calling her "dummy." Only Mr. Falker, a stylish, fun-loving new teacher, recognizes Trisha's incredible artistic ability-and her problem, and takes the time to lead her finally and happily to the magic of reading. This autobiographical story is close to author Patricia Polacco's heart. It is her personal song of thanks to teachers like Mr. Falker, who quietly but surely change the lives of the children they teach. Patricia Polacco lives in Union City, MI.

Overjoyed at the thought of starting school and learning to read, Trisha is dismayed when all the letters and numbers in her books are jumbled up. Only Mr. Falker recognizes her problem and takes the time to lead her to the magic of reading. Full color.

Excellent, Very Fitting Title - Another Polacco Great

    Created: 03/08/06
Have you ever had a teacher that made a difference for you as a learner? In this wonderful autobiographical story, Patricia Polacco tells of a teacher who made a difference in her life. She tells the very frustrating story of how she learned to read. Finally, with the help of Mr. Falker she is successful. This story would be wonderful to share with a child who is having difficulty learning to read. The ending is one that could make you cry, as it did me. This as well as all of Polacco's books is a wonderful read aloud.

This is an excellent book. A great tool to teach kids about learning disabilities. I'm the wife of a severe dyslexic and mother of a son with severe dysgraphia and some dyslexia. This book helped me to understand how they felt when they were struggling to learn.
I bought this book to share with children at school. It is a great way to explain about learning disabilities. It also shows kids how not to treat people that learn differently from them.
I work as a Substitute Teacher, this is one of two books that I carry with me everyday.
