    Album Notes
Composer: Ennio Morricone .Director John Carpenter's brilliant remake of the '50s sci-fi fright flick more faithfully reproduces the elements of John W. Campbell's original tale. The movie would possess a far less foreboding atmosphere were it not for Ennio Morricone's provocative score. The famed composer's soundtrack for this chilling trek into alien oblivion is unlike any in his entire oeuvre. Replacing his trademark Spaghetti Western stings and squawking horns with redolent synths and ticking metronomes, Morricone vividly mirrors the isolation and utter hopelessness of men being killed off and absorbed one by one in an Arctic wasteland.Morricone's sinister string washes and deathly bass purrs unsettle your soul. This music is bleak, windswept, and chilled to the bone. THE THING stands as one of Morricone's lesser known works, yet it's perhaps his most interesting, subtle in its approach and absolutely galvanizing upon immersion. Not a disc to play with the lights out.

Included in Muzik's Top 10 Electronic Soundtracks - Better known for his spaghetti westerns, Morricone pulled out all the stops for this icily electronic score...

    John Carpenter's The Thing Soundtrack

    Created: 27/10/08
IMO the most disturbing soundtrack in horror world. If you've never seen the movie I suggest you watch it first. Then get your hands on this soundtrack. Composed by Ennio Moricone, it was brilliantly composed. With every sound Ennio marked his status with this soundtrack. I can just remember the opening theme which is the most recognized horror opening to true cult classic enthusiants. The "heart beats" sound enlighting the listner, the vived view of the cold artic was simply a chilling feeling. That is all this soundtrack is; chilling, sad, psychological, and mind-blowing. My number one(1) choice in selecting a soundtrack that represents HORROR sound.

This CD is out-of-print now. You can get your's if you search ebay for a while. They show up once in a while. Be willing to spend atleast $70 or more US. It's very rare now and when it pops up, those who are knowledgable on it will jump on this cd. I have my own copy which will never leave me. Simply amazing soundtrack...
