Movie synopsis

Set in 1971, when America was a nation divided over the escalating violence and bloodshed of the Vietnam War, TIGERLAND begins when thousands of young soldiers had already lost their lives to the war, and thousands more were preparing to enter combat. In Fort Polk, Louisiana, a group of young soldiers-in-training has conflicting opinions about the war. Jim Paxton (Matthew Davis) is an idealistic romantic who sees Vietnam as potential inspiration for future novels and romantic war stories. Roland Bozz (Colin Farrell) is a rebellious antihero who decides that he wants no part of the army or the war and begins to disobey orders, trying to get expelled from the infantry. Paxton and Bozz become leaders to a small group of young draftees, and Bozz inspires them to question authority. As they enter Tigerland--a training process in which the soldiers simulate combat in the Louisiana wilderness--the men begin to realize just how far they will go to stay out of the war. This gritty, documentary-like vision of the war is engaging and incredibly moving, employing natural lighting, handheld cameras, and realistic dialogue to encapsulate the deeply internalized psychological journeys of the characters. Irishman Farrell gives a breakout performance as Bozz, replete with intense charisma and brooding outlaw heroism.

Tigerland

Created: 16/07/09
In 1971 almost all of the soldiers and marines were being sent to Vietnam. This
is the story of a group of men that the "system" wants to make into soldiers,
but one soldier -Bozz, played by Colin Farrell- that stands in the way of the
army in gaining that goal. "Tigerland" is a simulated combat training area
that the troops have to go through prior to their assignment to Vietnam, and
Bozz does everything possible to mess with the system in order to avoid his
assignment to the Combat in the war zone. A gritty, sometimes suspenseful film
that Military and War movie lovers will enjoy.

Colin Farrell movie

Created: 07/04/07
I bought this movie mainly cause it was set in the same time period when I was in the US Army. Many of the men I went to basic training with at FT. Dix, NJ. were sent to FT. Polk, LA. for jungle training and I wanted to see what I missed. Also this was a breakout movie for Colin Farrell as an actor. This was one of his first attempts in American movies and has made quite a career since doing this film. Another plus for buying this film is that it is relatively cheap to buy.

A MOVIE WORTH WATCHING.....

Ever since I was young I have loved movies, especially break through performances. This was Mr. Colin Farrell's first performance and first major film role. OUTSTANDING-everyone should get a chance and watch-TIGERLAND.

REAL, INSIGHTFUL AND SUCCINCT!

Created: 09/03/07
THIS MOVIE RECALLS THE INNER TURMOILS OF THOSE DRAFTED INTO THE SERVICE KNOWING THEY WERE HEADED TO VIETNAM! IT CAPTURES REAL ASPECTS OF WHAT WENT THROUGH THE MINDS OF THE DRAFTED, THE ENLISTED OFFICERS, THE RETURNING DI'S AND THE RA ENLISTED THAT SIGNED UP SO THEY COULD CHOOSE AN M.O.S. (MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL STATUS) TO STAY OUT OF COMBAT WITH AND WITHOUT FAMILIES, WITH AND WITHOUT EDUCATION, WITH AND WITHOUT CHILDREN, WITH AND WITHOUT WIVES AND THE INJUSTICES OF THE DRAFT SYSTEM AT THE TIME! IT ENCOMPASSES TRAINING AND LIFE CHANGING EXPERIENCES NEVER TO BE FORGOTTEN PRIOR TO LEAVING FOR VIETNAM! QUITE REALISTIC AND ACCURATE IN ALL ASPECTS!!!

Good but Could Be Better / RATING: 3.5/4 of 5

Created: 28/01/07
We rate this movie 3.5/4 out of 5. The storyline is based on the actions/consequences of one particular platoon. We expected more Vietnam War "action" and military equipment/ops.
Overall, it is a good movie, but wouldnt quite catch the interest of a VFW Veteran or a Vietnam War movie collector.
The DVD quality and picture quality appears to be more of a low-budget film.

Overall, its a "good" flick.
