Time well spent

As a fan of Discovery Channel's "Deadliest Catch" I recieved my copy as a gift. Once I started to read it, I could not put it down. The love the Hillstrand family has for each other is clearly evident - even through the horseplay and hard times. Being a bit of a hellion in my younger days made me appreciate the close knit ties the brothers have, and what it takes to bring us city folks a plate of crablegs for dinner.
This is excellent reading for anyone who has ever been on a boat larger than a canoe - or wishes to fish one day.

A Biased review of a great book!

As told by the Co-Captains, Jonathan and Andy Hillstrand. This book is well written and really gives you an insight to life on a crab boat during crab season. It goes a bit more in depth than Deadliest Catch does, and it won't leave you disappointed.

First of all, I am a Deadliest Catch diehard fanatic. So I go into this review with a love for the show and the crab fishing lifestyle.
I always enjoy the Time Bandit crew and Jonathan and Andy Hillstrand, when it comes their time on the show to have the spotlight on them.
The book itself takes you into the past and present with the Hillstrand brothers and their father, who raised them in that lifestyle. They show their love and respect for the father in this book. Their lives and their dedication to what they do, is in most part, according to them, directly related to what their father instilled in them growing up. The book takes you back and forth, from then to now, on what it is and was like to grow up in Homer, Alaska. To go fishing in the Bering sea, never knowing if it will be your last trip out. The two brothers that operate the Time Bandit, Jonathan and Andy, are what you would expect a fisherman to be. Rough, tough, hard working, wicked sense of humor, practical joke players, etc. They make just the average guy want to go do what they do. Its a rough life for sure, even harder on their families at home. But for the most part, the wives go into it knowing that a good bit of the time, their husbands will not be there. The book flows well from page to page. In fact, to me it ended too quick. I didn`t want it to end when I saw I was getting close to the last few pages. To me, thats the sign of a good book and a good writer. When you want the story to go on, it leaves you hanging for more. Hopefully they will write another book within a couple of years, and they can add in their relationship/friendship with now deceased Captain Phil Harris. When I saw Jonathan tear up and cry when Capt. Phil was coming back from his stroke, that showed me what a real man is, even a rough fisherman like Jonathan. These men do bond out at sea and their lives inre dependant on the other fisherman out there with them.
If you are considering buying this book, consider no more. Buy it and you will not regret one second of it.

We love Deadliest catch & the Time Bandit.
The book was awesome, the price was reasonable.
It was also good to read some of the family history.
If they write another, I buy that also.

If you are a fan of the Discovery channel show, you won't find too many startling insights to what happens, but this is a fascinating read about how a family creates and lives within a business that carries a risk of mortality with it.
