Nothing we've seen compares with TiVo
Created: 14/12/10
We've been TiVo fans for years and are still impressed with how nicely TiVos work. We tried the local cable company's dvr for a couple of months early this year and didn't see any comparison with TiVo. The cable co's dvr was awkward and unreliable. We were delighted to get rid of the dvr and get back to TiVo.
TiVo HD requires a cablecard to access the cable co's HD channels. Installing these is extremely easy with TiVo - the cable co's service tech is not needed. Two brands of cable cards are commonly seen: Motorola and Scientific Atlantic. Both of our HD TiVos have Motorola cards but several different Motorola cards had to be tried before compatible ones were found. The word is that Scientific Atlantic's is more compatibile. But don't give up on the Motorolas - just keep trying different ones til you find one that works.
One can also easily upgrade the storage capacity of TiVo. Do a search for WinMFS, a freeware utility that copies the basic TiVo software to a much larger hard drive, Super easy.
Long live TiVo!

Tivo Rules

Most people will tell you that a DVR is a DVR. But Tivo is Tivo. Ask my wife, she will tell you its way easier to use, much more intuitive, and runs much more flawlessly. Also, with software based updates, you get more out of the tivo all the time. I bought my HD is 2007, and this is my second. Since then they have added all of the internet based features I want (Amazon, Netflix, YouTube and Pandora) and have improved suggestions and multi room viewing.
Dvr's are all alike, but Tivo is no average DVR.

Great product! The Cable cards can be a bit tricky to program, took a Comcast Rep over 5 hours and a card switch. Once it is configured it is AWESOME!!!!! Great Picture and Fast intuitive controls. Very easy to learn and navigate, makes recording your favorite programs a snap. HD is great quality and 20 HD hours is more than we will use at any one time. Excellent features for expansion of data storage w/o replacing drive just use an external HD w/ESATA Cable. Very satisfied with my purchase. I will definitely buy another TIVO product in the future!!!!

Tivo is simply the best dvr ever created. My tivo totally gets me. It records shows it thinks I'll like and almost all the time its right. It records great in hd. I love the dual tuners so that I can record 2 shows at once or watch one show while recording another. That's great when a good game comes on and my wife is still watching something. If you don't have a tivo get one. If you use an awful dvr from whatever provider you have you are completely missing out in the best tv watching experience ever created.

Old but fast GUI with all essential functions needed
Created: 04/08/10
I have two Tivo units, one is Tivo Premere XL and the other one is Tivo HD.
I love the Premere's new and nice GUI, but I love Tivo HD unit.
This one has the old GUI looks little bit outdated, but it has all the essential functions you need. Important thing is Tivo HD's response is faster than Premere unit. Also with additional $60~$70, you can replace the original HDD with larger one, which can make your recording time up to 144hr in HD. Tivo HD is relatively cheaper now, this is the economic choice for your TV watching experience.
