Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 (Sony Playstation 3, 2007)

First off my review is written by me, not copied and I have been playing video games for over 20 years. I have been in to shooters for over 6.

This is a brilliant tactical shooter. If you do not like the genre, play a few to get used to it. However, I found that it had elements of a FPS as well making it a great choice.

First off the good
1. The graphics were stunning at times, make sure you look out of the chopper while you fly otherwise you may miss some good sequences. Look at the mules tires, they look real, the metal objects shine, the light broke through at dawn and dusk moments, and IR looks authentic ( I have walked many a night through 0% illumination areas using IR).
2. Destructible environments (the cars make great oversized frag grenades if you blow them up).
3. The Soldiers and enemy AI are quite good. It reminds me of COD4 enemy AI. I never spend my time managing soldiers (take cover, shoot now, etc). They act as Soldiers should.
4. The enemy AI is very good too. I played one level 4 times and each time the opening enemy armor vehicle did something different (based on my different actions)

5. I liked the attachments on each level, no operative is truly at it alone, so use the tanks, UAVs, Stryker, little bird, or local Soldiers when they are available).
6. Diverse weapons let you get a different experience
7. Weapons selection was pretty good. Enough diversity early on to keep you entertained, and as you play more became available.
8. Decent length, definitely not a push-over. You will not breeze through this one without using all of your skills (using attachments, shooting hard to get enemy, basic tactics).
9. Thirteen levels of rebels that love to spill your blood.
10. Useful action tutorial. Most tutorials are shooting paper targets and they are lame. This one was quick, to the point and ended with a full scale mini operation.
11. Easy and fun multiplayer mode. I logged in and was tagging others within minutes.
12. Quick mission mode lets you clean up and earn all the decorations
13. I paid $23 for it (on eBay)
Now the bad
1. I fumbled with the R3 button to get up and down, this is more on me, but I was constantly missing it and as a result getting whacked. Sometimes cover becomes sticky and you have to break free just to toss a grenade or aim and shoot.
2. Occasionally I would shoot the ground in front of me and as a result either be embarrassed or kill myself (in the case of using the anti-tank weapon). This would happen with grenades too (awkward arc).
With 2 bad and 13 good this game gets a 87%. It is a solid addition to any collection.

I chose the "good" rating only because "excellent" is a bit too much. I give this game a 4.5. It is a very good game. Ghost Recon exceptionally blends realism, strategy, weapons, action, and difficulty together. The game has a wide selection of weapons, from machine guns to missle launchers. The game also has a wide variety of tools, such as UAV drones, transporters, (MULES), and a cross-com interface that allows you to direct your teammates. This game also makes you use your mind, not just your trigger finger. For an example, in one level you must destroy remaining wreckage of a helicopter, heavily guarded by enemies, by yourself, in the late-evening, dark enough when you really can't see, but light enough your night-vision goggles do not work. To get out of that mission alive, you must use your mind. In addition to strategic levels, the game has a great plot, one that makes you feel like it could happen. Also, the game blends cutscenes and actual gameplay flawlessly. Even with new breath-taking shooters out: Modern Warfare 2, Uncharted 2, ect. Ghost Recon can still hold its own. For $29.99 or less Ghost Recon is a great buy. Even for the original $59.99 starting price, it still is a great game to add to our collection, I highly recomend it.

Control your squad/vehicles and take advantage of the battlefield. Awesome game with terrific story and graphics. A PS3 must have! If you like War Games - this is definetely one you must buy. Online Multiplayer is great as well!

Its a tactical warfare game, so it took a little getting used to vs Modern Warfare. I think if more of the game included an entire squadron like tanks, helicopters, troops and Ghosts, it would have made it harder and more interesting.

I'm still curious about Ghost Recon 3, but I wouldn't pay top dollar and get the game when it immediately came out. I'd wait till the price dropped.
