Album Notes
Though the album is comprised entirely of contemporary Nashville radio hits, TOTALLY COUNTRY VOL. 2 sports a slightly more appropriate title than one might guess. The collection leans heavily on the "new traditionalist" sound, and many of the selections have distinctly rural lyrical themes. The record opens with Travis Tritt's "Modern Day Bonnie And Clyde," a classic-sounding "outlaw" song that wouldn't sound out of place on a '70s Waylon Jennings album. On the other end of the spectrum is the band Rascal Flatts, whose "I'm Movin' On" sounds like a weepy Elton John pop ballad, complete with rolling piano and string section. Though the disc may occasionally recall one of those mix CDs used as background music in suburban theme restaurants, TOTALLY COUNTRY VOL. 2 is a fine sampler that will appeal to anyone wishing to explore a few of the genre's best 2002 offerings.
