Product description

Synopsis
This profusely illustrated guide to self-massage is by Clair Davis, who certainly is an enthusiast. A former piano technician who turned to massage therapy after a bout of serious pain that was resolved by a therapist, Davis became enamored of a two volume text, MYOFASCIAL PAIN AND DYSFUNCTION by Travell and Simons, two medical professionals. Their books identified trigger points in the body, highly localized knots that cause referent pain. Davis saw this as groundbreaking work in a neglected field and dedicated his time to the topic. THE TRIGGER POINT THERAPY WORKBOOK, a true work of love, uses pictures and text to map out each region of the body, showing where trigger points can occur and how to apply self-massage to alleviate the situation. Along the way, Davis explains the role of muscles and their membranes in health, and how trigger points may explain a range of illnesses, including fibromyalgia.

The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Clair Davies

Created: 09/09/06
Although there is a newer edition available, I bough this book because it is not much different than the new edition. This workbook is very good for anyone with Fibromyalgia or Myofascial Pain Syndrome because it explains Travell's trigger points and shows how to locate them. This is not a book of theories. Anyone with chronic pain can easily locate the trigger point that needs work by looking at the charts in this book. Before I bought this book, I got it through the public library and used it. However, I was taking it out so often, that I decided to invest the money and buy a copy for myself. I have passed it on to several people at work, who are also getting good results from the knowledge in this book. It is highly recommended for anyone with chronic pain.

Very good for those stressed muscles

Created: 01/02/07
I have found this book to be very informative and mostly right on target. There should be some caution if you are a beginner at trigger point therapy as you can bruise the delecate muscles. It has been very helpful to me for treating my own fatigued muscles and trigger points. I am not a medical professional, mind you, but someone who bought the book seeking some type of relief for myself. It has been very benificial to me.

Always Read Before Using

No need for me to go into details for the others have done so. Just wanted to let you know this is something that everyone should know about and own so that you may help "heal thy self". I bought the Thera Cane and this book really came in handy. Knowing where your trigger points and how to use them is a plus.

The author takes you on his journey of finding relief for his pain and guides you precisely in relieving your own pain. His easy to understand explanation of some complex issues makes even the technical and anatomical portions easy to read. If you have pain, read this book. 'Nuf said.
