THE TRINITY SESSIONS was recorded with a single microphone in Toronto's Church of the Holy Trinity (hence the title), an engineering circumstance that has everything to do with the record's stark, spacious atmosphere. Bass and lightly brushed drums provide a soft, pulsating background, while gentle guitar embellishments weave around singer Margo's haunting vocal performances. While it is the record's many covers-including treatments of the Velvet Underground's "Sweet Jane," Hank Williams' "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry," and Patsy Cline's "Walking After Midnight"-that first catch a listener's attention, the originals also sparkle. "Misguided Angel," in particular, received a good deal of airplay. The combination of gentle, smoky atmospherics and the somewhat unsettling distention of conventional country song structures make THE TRINITY SESSIONS an intriguing and worthwhile listen.

Any live recording as subtle, beautiful and moving as The Trinity Session is an instant classic. Offers wonderful covers of some old favorites such as Sweet Jane (Velvet Underground) and Walking After Midnight (Patsy Cline) as well as some surprises - some of my favorite work from these guys! Highly recommended!

The Trinity Session is a Classic

Created: 09/08/06
This easily makes my list of "if you could only take ten recordings with you to a desert island". Simple music performed with passion. The recording technique - recorded in the Trinity Curch in Toronto - adds to the soft, almost almost painful sound of the songs

The Trinity Session...Cowboy Junkies CD...1988

I chose to buy this CD because I had an old one on cassette that someone had given me. Most of the songs are very calming and are great background music but it is easy to understand the words too. I would recommend this music to anyone who likes slow and peaceful music...I love it!!!

Classic Cd, great vocals and lyrics. Margo Timmins has a fantastic voice, no question, and the album is certainly one of their best. A great buy for your collection..
