The ethereal harmony vocals of three of popular music's sweetest swingers, Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt, would be enough--their harmonies couldn't have been closer if they were triplets. But THE TRIO offers something more, gathering songs that not only utilize their natural singing talents but also bring out the emotional timbre of their collective voice. From the ultra-pretty Phil Spector pop classic "To Know Him Is To Love Him" to the hard-country Jimmie Rodgers song "Hobo's Meditation" and the high-lonesome "Memories Of You," THE TRIO brims with musicality. There are several traditional songs, a folk song written by Jean Ritchie, the spine-tingling gospel standard "Farther Along" and some strong Dolly Parton originals. On "Telling Me Lies," written by Linda Thompson, Linda Ronstadt delivers one of her most controlled performances ever.

Dolly sings like an angel.

I purchased it for Dolly's "Wildflowers" which one doesn't often see on a CD. I thought the rest of the CD and the collaboration would be interesting, but it really is hard to beat Dolly just singing alone.

This recording is also available on vinyl and cassette.

This is pleasant blend of the artists' talents with strong emphasis on Dolly. There can be no doubt that this album is vintage country with heavy bluegrass/gospel flavoring. If you appreciate Carter Family and vintage Chuck Wagon Gang works you wiil throughly enjoy this entire CD. If your preferences lean toward Modern Country with electronic instruments and or strong reverb you may not enjoy it.

Some folks may want to try running the audio through vintage equipment such as old jukebox or even PA system amplifiers and speakers. You might prefer the totally vintage sound.

This CD is very different from the bright modern sound of the Honky Tonk Angels which plays best on modern wide-range
equipment.

The Trio CD

I was raised on country and bluegrass music and to me this is one of the best harmonizing around! These three women all have exceptional voices individually, but together they go beyond that. This music brings back a lot of happy memories from when my folks were still alive!
