The title track casts a wistful look back while declaring the singer's intention to keep forging ahead. Aided by Patty Loveless, Strait sings the praises of Johnny and June on the moving elegy "House of Cash," while "Make Her Fall In Love With Me Song" is the kind of tune that could have been pumping out of a honky-tonk jukebox when Strait was still the new kid on the block. His lifelong love affair with Western Swing gets an airing here on the sprightly Dean Dillon duet "West Texas Town." At an age when some singers might think about slowing down, Strait sounds like he's just picking up speed on TROUBADOUR.

Editorial Reviews
[W]ith TROUBADOUR, he throws in a couple of delectable curveballs -- like the Caribbean twinkle of 'River of Love' and the rock edge of 'House of Cash'...
Paste

3 stars out of 5 -- TROUBADOUR is up to the usual standards, maybe better. There's witty, swaggering honky-tonk and the requisite hot-fiddle swing number.

Troubador- George Strait's Greatest CD

Created: 15/11/08
I believe a great expression, "You get better with age!" George has been a real gentleman and a real "troubadour" throughout his career. His Texas style of music makes me proud to be a country western fan.

I did not think there would be a better CD than "Carrying your love with me" but here it is- "Troubadour". God Bless You George and many, many more please!

No wonder he won 2008 CMA "Song of the year"-I saw God today" and album of the year as well- "Troubadour"

Song he sang at 2008 CMA award show is on this CD-"River of Love"

"I saw God Today" is also on this CD. I sure would like to meet him and share a beer and good meal! Nothing more I can say but "BUY IT RIGHT AWAY"

Troubadour Is Authentic Country Music - In All Senses

Created: 19/04/08
Country music has today so many variations that is difficult to find one single release that represents the origins and the essence of country in a truly authentic way. "Troubadour" by George Strait is one of these examples that still exist of what I call genuine country: horse riding, truck driving in the highway, life in the fields - far away from the madness of urban life - and heartaches.

All of these things are reflected both in the lyrics and in the melody contained in this great piece of recording. A little more than 35 minutes of songs that won't leave you bored and tired before it ends, no fillers, just pure country music to the ears. No single track stands out, all of the 12 are fine.

Troubador

Couldn't love the CD more! He has produced another classic CD with wonderful music...He still has most of his original style of music and is now encompassing more of todays country than before. I would like to see George stay more with the types of songs he use to sing than get to much into the current music but no matter what, he will always be my favorite and the King of Country!

George Strait Troubadour

Created: 24/04/08
I have been a George Strait fan for some time now especially since Pure Country and I Cross My Heart and so I wanted to hear the latest and once again he lays down the music that will pull your heart strings. I think it may rank near the top of his cds and music that he has done this far. I really enjoyed every song on this cd and cannot wait to see if he puts another out and tries to outdo this one. Great CD.

I really like George Strait and this CD did not disappointment me. I especially relate to The Troubadour and If Heartaches Were Horses. Keep up the good work George, for many more years I hope.
