Album Notes
Those who've seen his stage show know that Mos Def works from inspiration, going with the music wherever it takes him. Throughout his recording career--from his status as one of the brightest stars in the original Rawkus line-up, to his classic teaming with Talib Kweli as the duo Black Star, to his genre-transcending solo albums--Mos Def has utilized his own diverse musical tastes to produced an equally diverse sound. In the past he's built on rock (like the Red Hot Chili Peppers' "Under The Bridge") and soul recordings, and put post-modern spins on classic hip-hop beats and rhymes, taking them and making them his own. On his highly anticipated third solo album, TRU3 MAGIC, Mos Def works in the same vein as always, staying true to his tastes and simply doing what he feels (which could really result in just about anything). Whether he's spitting and whistling over the classic GZA "Liquid Swords" beat on "Crime & Medicine," rap/singing over the JBs-esque jam session "Sun, Moon, Stars," channeling Living Colour's Cory Glover for the frenzied hard-rock howl of "U R the One," or reworking timelessly quotable verses from Run-DMC and Smooth Bee, it's all hip-hop and it's pure Mos Def.

Real Hip Hop is still alive.

Created: 25/06/07
This Album is amazing, I would advise if your a true hip hop lover, buy the cd. If your looking for a club album, obviously it isnt that. Its good riding music, thinking music. Its real. I mean, its now the day and age where most of my favorite rappers have become so poppy, Mos Def gives Hip Hop hope. The cd is going to be re-released in 2007.

Background info: The album was released on a Friday as opposed to the traditional Tuesday. The label now says that the release was essentially a bad idea on their part and will now be re-released in the springtime with cover art and credits now accompanying.[4] This makes the currently available version a collector's item as it has been recalled and more and more stores react to the news. This may have been done by the record to boost the album's image as the song "Undeniable" has earned Mos Def a Grammy nomination.

Grammy nomination ya'll. Enough said.

Magic

You know, I will be honest, the 1st time I listened to this album I was disappointed to say the least. Buy since Def is one of my faves and an inspiration to me, I gave it another listen. Again, Again, and Again!!! It WILL grow on you, if you let it. Once again, after hearing the perfection of albums such as Blackstar and Black on Both Sides... this is kinda your bitter pill to swallow...However, if you are a tru Mos Def fan, I guarentee there are a few songs you will be happy with!

Could have been better!!!!!

I expected more from Mos Def, being that he took so long to come out with this cd. I like the style he had on his first cd in which he told real stories about life. His second cd was also better than this one. This cd had no overall theme.

The album needs to grow on you

The album is a good album, but it needs time to grow on you. It's not one of those albums where you can listen to it one time and love it. This one needs a lot of time to start liking a song.
