Product description

Synopsis
Rock singer Melissa Etheridge has been the poster child for celebrity lesbians since she came out in the early 1990s; that her sexual orientation had been an open secret for some time, and that her songs carry a rock-solid, almost traditional Midwestern vibe, enabled her to avoid most of the opprobrium usually dished out to well-known homosexuals. Her career has included Grammy awards, a performance at a gay inaugural ball for President Clinton, and outspoken advocacy for gay rights. From its opening pages, where she reveals the childhood physical and sexual abuse she received from her older sister, THE TRUTH IS... is a sometimes harrowing but always honest account of a life fraught with both difficulty and triumph. Etheridge writes frankly, humorously, and viscerally about her growing awareness of her lesbianism, about how her sexuality informs her songwriting, and about her long relationship with Julie Cypher, with whom she had two children (with sperm donated by none other than singer-songwriter David Crosby), and from whom she separated in 2000. By turns philosophical and realistic, THE TRUTH IS... is a candid recounting of the life of this pioneering singer and personality.

WOW! This book was everything I hoped it would be. Melissa has so much courage and insight into the struggles and persecusion women in the world go through today.
Melissa's music has always reflected her inner struggles and personal journey through life. Her songs touch the lives of others who shared similar struggles with who they really are but were afraid to come forth. "THE TRUTH IS...." allows women to take a long, deep breath, release their fear, allowing them to be who they are and become who they hope to become!

I dislike nothing about this book. I purchases this book because I am a big fan of Melissa Etheridge's music. She is an inspiration.
I found this book to be very revealing. You could feel every emotion as you read on. It made me laugh, cry, happy and sad. It gave alot of insight on songs, the true meaning behind them. On a more personal level, made me feel like I got to know Melissa Etheridge as person better.(To better understand her). There were alot of emotions shared in this book and I could feel the passion as I read on. I would highly recommend this book. I feel other artists should be more personal like this and write a book. I do hope to see Melissa Etheridge have a 2nd book come out to continue on with the chapters of her life that have occurred in the last few years and to go in depth of her new album Fearless Love.

Quite a page turner

This book is exciting. Being such a big Melissa Etheridge fan I was thrilled to find this on ebay. The book is shorter than I expected and very easy to read. The language is simple enough for young people to read. "The truth is" isn't the best book ever but it's pretty darn good. I can't wait for her to write her next book (if she decides to write another one). This is only chapter one in the intriging life of this rock and roll superstar.
