Product description

Synopsis
Political pundit and popular talk show host Al Franken follows his bestselling LIES (AND THE LYING LIARS WHO TELL THEM) with THE TRUTH (WITH JOKES). Since his previous book, the Republicans have won a this-time-uncontested presidential election, and Franken has started up Air America, the liberal radio network. The "truth" part includes the facts, data, stats, etc. with which Franken hoists the Bushcons on their own petard. And the "jokes" part? For Franken, that's also the part where he--gleefully--hoists the Bushcons on their own petard.

Publisher's Note
Al Franken is Â?the perfect guy to write a book attacking AmericaÂ's nasty, mean, vicious right-wing pols, pundits and preachers,Â? wrote The Washington Post in its review of Lies. Â?But his book barely scratches the surface of the Bush administrationÂ's well-documented mendacity... Looks like Franken will have plenty of material for a sequel.Â?

The Republicans won the White House and Congress in November. In Fall 2005, Al Franken strikes back. His new book picks up where Lies and The Al Franken Show leave off. Armed with an arsenal of facts and research (and comedy!), Al is ready to take the fight to the Bush administration and their right-wing cronies. Intelligent, insightful, inspiring, and laugh-out-loud funny, AlÂ's hard-hitting work of political satire is poised to become the most talked about book of the year.

Praise for Lies
Â?Brilliant... A serious and riotous retort ... searingly funny.Â?
Â?Star Tribune (Minneapolis)

Â?Franken has something that his targets conspicuously lackÂ?a sense of humor. This book is laugh-out-loud funny.Â?
Â?The Washington Post

Â?Lies gets big laughs... Amusing, true and cleverly put... Mr. FrankenÂ's best work.Â?
Â?The Dallas Morning News

Â?Lies rings with the moral clarity of an angelÂ's trumpet... sharp analysis and humor.Â?
Â?Associated Press

Industry Reviews
"And yeah, it's funny. Which is important....Franken's got plenty of humor techniques in his quiver and most of them work."
Salon - Lynn Harris (10/25/2005)

"While Franken writes with a razor-sharp wit, his intention is deadly serious....Franken has the ability to entertain, illuminate and motivate."
Publishers Weekly (10/24/2005)

"[Franken] and his team of researchers specialize in zinging politicians with their own words, and that's what gives his book weight. Even better than the jokes is Franken's rollicking, journalistic enthusiasm for exposing lies, contradictions and hypocrisy."
New York Times Book Review - Carl Hiaasen (12/04/2005)

"THE TRUTH does keep its promise to be funny about extremely unfunny matters....Like THE DAILY SHOW...the book uses the editing of on-the-record data as a devastating comic weapon."
New York Times - Janet Maslin (10/31/2005)

The Rest of the Story

Created: 23/07/09
Being a reformed rightwinger, I decided to read some material put out by the other side. I thought Al Franken would be a good start since the Republicans put up such a fight to try to keep from from his senate seat in Minnesota that he rightfully won. What did he know that they didn't like? I think this book provides some answers on that, even though this was written a full three years before he ran for election. Intelligently written with lists of sources to back up his claim, this book is a good read to learn the stories behind the stories. While I now think that both sides use the same tactics, at least I can see them both.

Issue By Issue, Fact By Fact

All joking aside -- and the book is entertaining -- this is the most complete, most well documented and most easily understandable chronicle of the Republican Party's actions, motives and propaganda methods out there. From the time of George W. Bush's election right up to the publication date, each of their significant actions is discussed, and the relevant quotes are presented along with the facts that show how deceitful Republicans are. There are many books out there that deal with this issue or that issue. This is the book that shows the whole picture.

Truth of the Year

Created: 12/10/06
Briefly, if you're thinking about seeing Man of the Year, I suggest instead to read this book. This is the man you're looking for. If you don't read, very soon a movie called God Spoke will be coming out all about The Truth and Al Franken.

This time Al is very pointed and factual. You'll be amazed what some people get away with. Sadly I consider that these books, which ever the political lean are going to be read by the choir. If you're not an Al Franken fan, I still suggest this book.

Ain't it The Truth

Little known facts about people in the news told in a humerous way. Unlike the right wing blather, his opinions are backed up by a long list of sources.
