The best game in its series.

Turok is by far the best game in the series. It is also the first one to have multiplayer. The only downside is that if you play with all weapons basicly whoever can get he plasma cannon first wins. It has a homing feature that can target someone across the map AND it goes through walls. It only takes a couple shots to kill someone. I suggest playing with snipes or something.
The single player mode is so cool! Theres only about two cinematic scenes so I was kinda wondering what was going on with the story but I really didnt care because it was nonstop action. This game is so great because it has aspects of every genre. Stealth/spy games, Flying, and all the perks of an FPS. The puzzles in shadow temple were actually pretty difficult. And some of the levels are actually really tough fighting off the baddies.
This game is great! The graphics take a little getting used to but its not really that bad. It is gamecube after all. If you get too mad at one of the levels and start throwing the controller you can always turn codes on. The first few levels are kinda boring but it picks up around chapter 3. It gets hard quickly and then varies thruout the game. If you like First person shooters you will definitely like this game. I suggest playing with some friends but remember there will probably be arguements about the plasma cannon.

Major Disappointment

Turok Evolution was heavily hyped, and was released to much fanfare, earning middling to good reviews. Suffice to say I don't agree with the somewhat positive reviews of this game. To put it shortly, in light of all the prerelease hype surrounding this game, to call it a pile of s*** would be a compliment.
Let us go over what this game promised, shall we? This game was supposed to resurrect the dying Turok franchise and was supposed to have "revolutionary AI," "lifelike graphics", "innovative gameplay," etc etc. Now, if it came anywhere near any of those, I could excuse this game, but since it doesn't, let me point out its flaws.
As for the revolutionary AI, I guess it's revolutionary in that it has made no steps forward in being more intelligent, unlike most new games, which usually attempt to improve upon past achievements. Case in point: there can be two guards standing right next to each other. You explode one guard's head with a non-explosive arrow (don't ask me how that works), and the other guard just stands there. Hmmm...
Lifelike graphics? Well, to be honest, the environments aren't all that bad. The foliage looks good, although many times it is too thick to see through, so hiding in the foliage to stalk your prey (one of the cool features the developers promised) is pretty much useless, unless your goal is just to get killed by enemies you can't see. However, the character models are not so great. Most look like they were recycled from the N64 Turok games.
I suppose when they said innovative gameplay, they were referring to the extremely irritating pteradactyl flying sequences that are mixed in amongst the levels. Not only are the controls during these sections a little subpar, but the levels are just plain hard. Far more difficult than the rest of the game, in fact. This creates a really uneven experience, as you will easily blow through most of the first person sections, and then find yourself wanting to smash your controller during the flying levels.
Add to this a boring soundtrack and an especially stupid story that revolves around an evil, racist, Chuck Norris wannabe cyborg named Tobias Bruckner and you have one really truly awful game.
The one and only redeeming factor in this game is the multiplayer, which has always been Turok's strong suit. But even this is a little underwhelming. There is one gun that is essentially a homing one-hit-kill gun that bores into your opponent's skull and kills him. If anyone gets ahold of that, it is just a competition of who can shoot first, which honestly isn't that appealing.
Bottom line: The multiplayer is average at best, but it is still the best part of this otherwise abysmal game. Your money is better spent on just about anything else. Stay away.

Turok

This was the first game I ever played on my Game Cubed. It was free to rent, part of my Game Cubed purchase agreement. So I sat and played it and had a real hard time advancing through the game. I found it hard to kill Dinossour's with a rock. Probably because it was the first game I played on my new system at the time a few years back. Then I put it down and started to play the Metal Of Honor game which I also got at that time. Since then I have become a shooter game player and do quite well, but the fact that I never finished Turok has been in the back of my mind for sometime now. So one day I saw Turok here on EBay and the price was right and it was a new & sealed game so I snapped it up. I still have not played it yet because I am deep in this new Splinter Cell Double Agent which I also bought here on EBay. I think EBay is a great place to buy games because of the price mainly. So what is my opinion about the game you may ask. Sorry I don't have one at the moment, but get back to me in about a month or so. So why did I write this review you may wonder. Well, truth be told, it is Sunday morning and I am doing nothing important at this moment. Saw the request for a review in my E-mail from EBay, so I did it. Happy Holidays people. ;)

An Oldie But a Goodie!

This may be an older game, but it's a blast to play, especially for 2 players!
The best part is, it's so old now you can pick it up really cheaply either on ebay or even at gaming stores.
For concerned parents, you have the option of turning off the blood & gore. My son's favorite part of it is the weapons - he loves the plasma cannon! In single player mode, you hunt dinos, but in 2 player mode, you hunt each other!
The internet offers a ton of cheat codes to make this game easier, or just bizarrely fun, like with "Big Head" mode!!
I recommend it for any house with boys between the ages of 10-15.

A Great Classic that's not as bad as portrayed...

Though all the other games in the series of Turok were for N64 and PC, this one made it available to ALL consoles (except PC) At the time of it's realease. THis game deserves a better reputation. It has quite good graphics for a GCN game, and the Weapons are SWEET!!!! And it's fun to blow up a guy (or dinosaur) with a tiny Grenade! The multiplayer is the best of any of the consoles, and its fun with 4 players!!! The only bad thing about it is that if you activate the all weapons cheat, you get only the weapons for that level.
Overall a great game for fans of oldies!!!
5/5
