Its seems there are different reasons different people enjoyed the Twin Peaks series. Some for the soap opera like drama and mystery and others ,like myself, for the underlying spiritual and symbolic aspects of the show. I think the former group where those that where wanting the killer reveled and those who thought the show went downhill after he was.
I personally enjoyed the second season more and loved Fire Walk With Me. For me the mystery of who actually murdered Laura was much less interesting than why they did.
The strange phenomenon of how a girl in her late teens could still be silent about sexual abuse occurring in her own home is examined without fear by Lynch in this film.
If your anything like me what lingered in my mind most after watching Twin Peaks the series was , The Red Room, The White and Black Lodges,The Little Man from Another Place, creamed corn and there symbolism.
Fire Walk With Me , especially the scenes with Bowie, plunge even deeper into this bizarre parallel universe. I wouldnt say it reveals any mystery's but enhances them.David Lynch was forced to be absent from alot of the filming of Twin Peaks due to his simultaneously making "Wild at Heart". With 'Fire Walk With Me' we get David Lynches true perspective of the story of Laura Palmers final days (and afterlife!) and get to see some of the dreams Cooper only mentions in the series.
Watch this AFTER the series though, trust me.
This Twin Peaks dark side and mythology explored further .
Just remember this is an 'R' rated movie and the show was primetime TV(so make sure the kids are asleep)
If your a fan of the Red Room or Leeland Palmers antics, this is a must-see.
Also the soundtrack is flat out amazing !

A week & a half ago, I decided to rent Twin Peaks for the first time & became instantly enthralled by the quirky characters, the foreboding atmoshere and, oh yeah, the mystery of who killed Laura Palmer. My reaction wasn’t unlike most; I thought Season One was one of the most surreal tv experiences I’ve ever had and again, like most, I thought Season Two was good but could tell the wheels were starting to come off. Before watching Season Two however, I decided to read the reveiws on Netflix regarding Fire Walk With Me, wanting to know why it had such a low rating & whether or not I need watch it. Of course, I learned the secret of who killed Laura before I wanted to but the answer didn’t really surprise me for several reasons regarding his behavior during the show.
Needless to say, I finished Season Two & decided to give this a try regardless of what I’d read. Unfortunately, I wish I could say I was pleasantly surprised. FWWM didn’t really shed light on anything the show hadn’t already divulged. I thought the weirdness that was sprinkled throughout the show was way too amped up here & got in the way of the storytelling. That alone was FWWM’s undoing. Like other’s have said, we really don’t get to know Laura at all here other than a crying, sexed-up, drug addict which was a shame because Sheryl Lee had charisma enough for ten actress’.
And while some have said the violence & sex was pushed too far, I didn’t think it went far enough. I’ve seen more graphic sex scences on late night Cinemax. I also didn’t like was the handling of Laura’s unstanding of Bob/Leland. He had been screwing her for 3 or 4 years & she didn’t know it was Leland until the day before he killed her? Really? I liked the idea the show gave us better, that Laura knew her father was molesting her but that there was another entity at work.
I wish Twin Peaks could be remade today as a FX or HBO series. Maybe they could recapture what worked the first time & avoid the traps that crippled it prematurely the second time. It’s be nice to see someone try.

People have the tamarity to trash or criticize this movie!?!?!.
No, It wouldn't make much sense to someone outside of Twin Peaks land. But, David Lynch's crap is 10 times better than most people's so-called brilliance...and I never thought of this movie as crap. Not hardly. It adds one more bizarre guest home onto the already psychotic Twin Peaks log cabin, and no one else could do that but Mr. Lynch.
No, I don't know what David Bowie's character was supposed to be...and I don't care. And Sheryl Lee's performance was staggering - let's see any number of Oscar winners play Laura Palmer and be as disturbing. The imagery and camera work alone blows 25 years of MTV away.
So that's my rant, and I've got the DVD. Let's Rock....

This is the Prequel to the TV series Twin Peaks....PLEASE watch seasons 1 and 2 before watching this movie. It is amazing to watch everything fall into place from the series in "fire walk with me." Anyone who is a fan of dark, skin-crawling drama will be a fan Twin Peaks the movie and the series. Highly recommended...worth your time!!

Not for fans of the TV show

I rediscovered Twin Peaks again after years and years (it was on when I was 10) - so I went about collecting all of it: the TV seasons and the movie... I honestly didn't remember the movie at all.
First setback: hardly any Cooper involvement.
The next thing and the main thing is something echoed by the actors themselves in the DVD extras... the thing that make Twin Peaks work was the evil and darkness bubbling below the surface of a seemingly innocent small town.
In the movie, all of that disappears and the ugliness of the real Twin Peaks in shoved directly into the viewer's face: incest, drug use, murder...
I guess I could sum it up with just a complete lack of subtley, but if you are a fan, it doesn't hurt to have it in your collection.
