Album Notes
Initial pressings of THE ULTIMATE COLLECTION included a limited edition bonus disc featuring four previously unreleased tracks. The Who: Roger Daltrey (vocals, harmonica); Pete Townsend (guitar, keyboards, background vocals); John Entwistle (bass, background vocals);Keith Moon, Kenney Jones (drums).Producers include: Shel Talmy, The Who, Kit Lambert, Glyn Johns, Jon Astley.Compilation producers: Andy McKaie, Bill Levenson.Recorded between November 1964 and June 1982. Includes liner notes by Matt Kent and Andy Neill. When it comes to a ground-breaking, iconic band like the Who, dubbing an anthology THE ULTIMATE COLLECTION is no small claim. The kicker here is that it happens to be the truth. Without venturing into the realm of the box set, there's never been such a definitive batch of Who tunes all under one roof before. Virtually all the bases are covered here, from such attitude-laden mid-'60s mod anthems as "My Generation" and "Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere" to the conceptual expansiveness of TOMMY-era tunes ("I'm Free," "See Me Feel Me"). We get the full-on long-haired, bare-chested glory of the early '70s ("Won't Get Fooled Again") as well as the tapered, synth-flecked smartness of the early '80s ("Eminence Front," "You Better You Bet." For someone looking for an entry point into the work of this larger-than-life group, or just somebody who wants a great all-purpose who disc, THE ULTIMATE COLLECTION is truly a case of truth in advertising. Get one.

Who are you?

Created: 03/01/09
I decided to buy this because I had just viewed The Kennedy Center Awards program that included a long segment for The Who...which now is only Pete Townsend and Roger Daltry...but it was so dynamic that it jolted me into realizing just how much I love their music. This is THE comprehensive collection of their best writing outshined only by the monumental and in my opinion Best Rock LP of all time "Who's Next". The thing that sealed the deal was the showing of The Who coming out of a long sabbatical after 9/11 and giving possibly the performance of their lives in honor of the bravest men in the U.S., the firefighters and police officers of New York City. I get chills just writing about it.

"Long Live Rock" and LONG LIVE THE WHO!

The WHO

This CD has all of my favorites on it, and true Who fans will recognize it as more than just "that song from CSI" or "that song from the Nissan commerical". Not only does it have the greats, but it's got a few other songs that are left off of other compilation "Best of" albums I've purchased in the past. (i.e. "I'm Free", "See Me Feel Me", & "Love Reign O'er Me") WORTH EVERY PENNY! THE BEST OF THE BEST OF!

the ultimate collection-the who (cd 2002)

I am a new convert to "The Who" and this is a great collection of songs. I am old enough to have been an original fan but just never listened to them back then. Even my kids love this double CD. And my son's bass teacher said it is a nice collection of "Who" songs. too, and he already was a fan.

The Who

As a child of the 60's and 70's I love this album. Had all the songs on 8 track when I was a kid. The Ultimate Collection is the best of The Who. The music was ahead of its time using all the technology that was availible in the early 70's and late 60's. I highly recommend this album to any lover of classic rock and roll.

GREAT COLLECTION - Every hit song they have is in there. Great piece of history for the Who fans. Wonderful addition to any music collection or just to get familar with the Who. I was not disappointed with the cd. It is a great trip down memory land as well as hearing the founding influence of so many of today's artist.
